Cool, he's got the CV for it so this guy is a good choice. I guess this is EVE based rather than DUST 514... I'd like to see DUST as a stand alone movie - all action with just a hint of the EVE story for mystery...
Well... that's the thing. Dust can't be a movie by then.
By the time Dust becomes a full-blown AAA shooter that we expected, many events that are the result of emergent gameplay will have occurred. Eve Online is a perfect example.
During the past 11 years alone, Eve Online has seen countless player actions that have created a series of events unfold in a very unscripted manner such as, but not limited to:
The assault by Mo0.
The rise and fall of Band of Brothers (BoB).
The rise of Goonswarm.
The Great War.
Hulkageddon I, II, III, IV, and V.
The 2011 Jita Riots (famously known as Monoclegate) which later earned its proper monument.
The 3-day Goon-led assault on Jita in April of 2012 following the Gallente Ice Interdiction in the month prior.
The famous battle of Asakai which occurred on late January 2013.
The second burning of Jita.
The Fall of Against All Authorities.
The start of the Halloween War later on 2013.
The battle of the HED-GP system in January 2014.
The now record-shattering battle of the B-R5RB system that even earned its own monument as of January 2014.
And that's just off the top of my head. All of these are the result of player actions that have created the greatest sci-fi narrative in the MMO industry. A story that is as vast as the scriptures of the Holy Bible, Nag Hammadi Library, Torah, and Quran combined. About as in-depth as the Tom Clancy books. Filled with controversies and political intrigue that can make the CIA and KGB jealous. And economically interesting enough to become the subject of college economics classes in the real world.
If for the next 11 years Dust 514 is going down the same path as Eve Online did in the past 11 years, and I'm confident it will, then that means that making a "movie" based on Dust will only limit the scope of what Dust is truly about.
A TV series will do a much better job at expressing everything about New Eden. Unless of course you're into spending 3-hours at a time watching 6-9 films of Dust.
