I got into the closed beta.
Now I just don't quit because enough of my friends play it still to warrant log in in once or twice a day.
If they weren't playing, this poorly balanced, piece of crap game would have been deleted and forgotten a long time ago.
If you hear the words "WORTH IT!" look about, something hilarious just happened.

I got into DUST because of it connection with EVE.
I have been disappointed. CCP has said connection with EVE is a 'nice extra' and their priority is to make a good game. The point of DUST is that well implemented connection with EVE will make it a good game.

I've always been into video games. If I can't surf. I game. I was actually really opposed to online gaming, figured it would be a hassle. Kinda stumbled into it one winter and well I'm crazy addicted to the competition of going against another user. I heard about this game while I was playing ME3 before closed beta and immediately got drunk off it. Watched all the youtube vids there were. This is a unique game and I really do love it, even if I yell at CCP more than I should. Really cool thread OP +1 to you sir!

shooter in the eve universe, that sounds like the game I've been looking for all my life........reality sucks!
the potential really, I mean I'm waiting, hoping for planetside two with an end game, and better fights, with the RTS element of a battlefield commander that can call in support structures, and guide and direct his team, a real persistent cost and risk and reward to fighting. An underlying logi stics game play requiring the manufacture and transportation of gear as well as structures to produce the material for those items. PvE that is overwhelmingly difficult, yet not another wave based system(not that it couldn't be an element but it shouldn't be where the difficulty is dirrived from).
in short I'm here for the long haul, and probably will not be happy with this game for years too come. That said some of the best balancing ccp has done in this game too date has gone right out the window thanks to bullet magnetism. oh and if only they could get logis right. |

It looked like a game that would go on for a while. It sucks having all this progress in a game just to have it get old and get replaced by newer better things. Dust looked like something I could keep coming back to. Something that would continue to evolve for years to come. I have high hopes for the future.

Originally, my mother bought me a Ps3 from Gamestop. We didn't have the money to buy the 1 game that i wanted(Armored Core V) so she made me play whatever i could borrow and/or freebies. I borrowed Crysis3 from a redbox, and played that almost to conpletion.
After retuning it, i wanted my Sci-fi fi fix- played Dc universe, instantly hated it as it was microtransaction hell. Found Dust right next to it, and started playing the **** out of it. (Alright so the order's mixed up as all hell, DUST was the first thing i played, ten i rented Crysis.)

I only joined a few months ago and I'm at about 7.9m SP. I am still dreadful at this game with an appalling kd/r. I already terminated one character after crazily splashing a bunch of SP on useless stuff as I had next to no idea what was going on!
Was very attracted by the free to play idea but have already spent a new games worth of cash on aurum because DUST is incredibly addictive. It has all the ingredients that get me hooked on games. Building your own suits, grinding to build skills - it's potent stuff! I've always played sports games socially and never really been into FPS online except for a secret addiction to FAR CRY 2 which I became pretty good at. I had a feeling i could get hooked on DUST and it's been proved absolutely right.
I will probably never be particularly good at DUST but it's those occaisional games where you actually help the team and get more kills than deaths that keep me coming back. It's a very clever piece of work and I sincerely hope the whole thing keeps improving and growing. I never played EVE and don't really understand the whole concept of the two games inter-mingling but I'm excited to see this in action one day.
I was warned about the horrific learning curve but I've always loved tough games so it didn't put me off that much - the first few weeks of nightmarish consta-deaths nearly did however. I've also tried to get a handful of similarly not-so-hardcore friends to join up but they have all been put off by the initial difficulty. I think that's a shame and altho I am completely consumed by the DUST cloud myself - I support any changes that make it easier for new players to get into it.
Cheers!

-Curious about EVE. -Can't afford a PC capable of running EVE. -Already have a PS3.
I showed up in closed beta, around the time Skirmish 1.0 was disappearing. I got a weekend pass and enjoyed seeing the potential the game had (which it still doesn't live up to). At the time, I decided to buy a Merc Pack, partly because I wanted to support the game, but also partly because I wanted more playtime and with limited access, that was the best way to get it. |

I just saw it in the PSN store and downloaded, just because. I loved the idea of fittings and being more in control of how you develop and having different roles to play. I thought I could get my friends from other games to play and we could form a squad with defined roles and practice and train until we got good. They all quit because of the stomping. I stayed because of it, it ticks me off so bad I want to dish it out to those giving it.
It is only now that I can start to actually begin to actually play that it is any fun, but it is only now that I am thinking of quitting. Why? Because I love getting new things and trying out new roles and making better fittings, but when I do well, unless I know who I played against, there is the knowledge that I won because of what I have and I am becoming part of the problem that makes this game miserable for new players. I get better for what? So I can be a protostomper? If they don't fix PC, matchmaking or otherwise solve this problem I don't have much incentive. |

I don't want to be negative on DUST because I love the game but I kind of agree with this point about matchmaking - I have no idea how the matching up players is done but I can promise you that getting splatted 10 times in a row (or more!) is never ever fun - and if i wasn't a gaming masochist (dark souls addict, ghosts and goblins - I COMPLETED IT) I would have given up quite quickly.
But maybe that's the whole point - maybe getting smashed to pieces is the way you become proper DUST material. I'll be sticking around and hoping it happens but I know others are giving up pretty quickly. In the long run that has to be a negative for the entire community because any game could always do with bigger numbers.
I love the game myself but I want my real life buddies to join up and so far they are all saying no go.

Definitely I do 5 times better in any kind of squad. If you want to go for a Corp then I can definitely recommend Dust University. I was in another Corp which was totally fine (and cheaper actually) but ultimately I didn't learn anything and kept being cr*p. Just a few days in the University and I already have a bunch of incredibly helpful emails with tips and more importantly full scale instructions on how to do stuff that some others might take for granted. It seems ideal for someone like me. Not exactly new - but not exactly hot sh&& either!

I also got started because I'm an Eve pilot, dropped it (only because of available time), and got a PS3 because of exclusive titles I wanted to play. DUST was one of them, actually, so I immediately dl'ed and started playing. Not an FPS fan, Halo being the only other series I play and then pretty much only campaign.
I am fairly sure Eve DUST514 will be less than we hoped and less than other FPS's for about 2 years. I'm in this for the long haul, and I respect others who also have a crock pot mentality vs a microwave mentality.
