Many people feel that the redline is a necessary evil, but it is a terrible mechanic in its current state of being. Currently, there exists two potential abuses of the redline: - Firstly, one team can abuse the redline by evading and nullifying a large amount of threats by remaining far back and utilising long range weaponry (Sniper Rifles, Railguns, for example): this is bad, not because long range weapons are bad, but because they should be susceptible to enemies that sneak up/bum-rush them to get in close. - Secondly, the other team can abuse the redline by destroying any kind of coordination the pushed-back team can muster by completely obliterating every vehicle called in and long range weaponry will destroy any concentration of mercenaries: this is bad, because the intention of the redline is to give a team a place to recover and push back against the enemy - they've already been pushed off the objectives, they should not be subject to farming unless they choose to spawn on an area of the battlefield (ie, a CRU or Uplink) that the enemy are specifically camping.
My solution, as others before me have suggested, is to make the redline a complete barrier to weapons fire: in other words, the redline will function as a POS shield in EVE does - passage is allowed through the field, but the field prevents weapons from penetrating it.
Advantages of this: - It prevents certain weapons from abusing the redline mechanic: Sniper Rifles, Railguns, etc, would be able to use the redline for safety but would be unable to sit back in total safety and attack enemies with near impunity. They would be forced into an arena where engagement is possible and would require much more skill to use by making mobility and resilience key factors, rather than simply stacking as many damage mods as possible. - It prevents teams from getting slaughtered before they can organise any kind of resistance: by allowing them an area where they cannot attack or be attacked from, they would be able to call in vehicles to counter enemy vehicles without getting them shot down. Even though the enemies can see where you're mustering, you're guarded from premature fire and even though they can see where you're going to exit the field you'll be able to have your defences in place - which works for both sides.
I can't think of any disadvantages that are worse than what we currently suffer through.
Comments and feedback welcome...otherwise I wouldn't have put it here. |

Indeed the red-line is an issue. And such a 2-way fire neutralizing shield could be a good a idea.
Still, I would not extend the shield to the entire red-zone either. I would only provide such a shield under the MCC (which is currently the only consistent orbital strike safe place in red-zone). This would allow deployment and organization for a pushed team, and would not twisted the game mechanics completely (CCP would just need to repair the broken bolas when they come too close to the MCC ).
Keep in mind as well that specific orbital helps could be implemented in the future patches (like CRU or turret deployments for instance). Such deployments could turn a game upside-down.
Still, I agree that something could be done regarding red-line mountain tanking and snipers. But they don't go for the win either. And Dust is about winning, not body counting.

I can agree with that. I'd probably suggest multiple safe-points: perhaps a couple of bases each with a POS shield projected over them. That would at least give teams multiple places to group up and keep the enemy guessing. |

The redline functions fine, its the blueberrys that need work. Can we get a patch on blueberries either make them smarter or make them tougher so they don't die as much?

That was mean.
Give them some more time to enjoy the academy rather than sending them right away in our harsh world. That could be a good start.

We do already have plenty of space on CCP's mega-terrain maps, so it's not like bases would need to be small! |
