There was no other weapon in the same category of being, well, an assault weapon. That has changed. Caldari Rail Rifle, Minmatar Combat Rifle, and Amarr Scrambler Rifle exist so just having something named Assault Rifle seems out of place. This is especially true when the Assault Rail Rifle and Assault Combat Rifle are basically the same as Breach Assault Rifles; meant for closer range combat. Please rename the Assault Rifle to something else. Blaster Rifle, Plasma Rifle, anything other than Assault Rifle would be better as 'assault rifle' has become a class of weapon rather than a specific type of weapon.

We call it the Unicorn Rifle, which fires unicorns at your foes. They do no damage on impact, but rather the unicorns stand where they land and defecate rainbows at your foes, doing 30 damage per second per unicorn. They stay for 7 seconds. RoF stays the same. I am part shovel, part man, full scout, and a little bit special.

Its barrel is likely longer than the 'barrel' of the GAR. It is probably still within the loosely defined carbine class though.
