Amplification will increase your Scan RANGE, if I remember correctly. It's pretty obvious what Scan Range is. :P
Enhancement will increase your Scan PRECISION. If your Scan Precision is lower than the enemies Scan Profile, you can scan them on passive. However, they must be within your Scan Range. If you're looking at the skills, I suggest leveling them all equally. I didn't get Precision 3 until I could also get Dampening 3 and Range 3. It makes life a whole lot easier.
Also note that the Scouts are the only ones super-viable for Scanning. You can stealth-fit a Medium Suit by fitting a lot of Profile Dampeners, but a Medium Suit only has a Scan Range of 10m (Will provide picture for perspective), while a Scout has a Scan Range of 16m, which actually helps more than you would think, because suddenly your 1m boost from a 10% Range Amplifier turns into a 1.6m boost. Not a lot, I know, but with each tier, the Scanning modules provide a HUGE jump in numbers. I think it raises from 10% (STD) to 25% (ADV) on Range Enhancers, so yup. Normal stacking penalties apply, IIRC.
So, I couldn't find a picture (sadface), but I can explain how big 10m is on the minimap. As you can see by just looking at the minimap, there's multiple rings on it. Each ring specifies a distance. The outer-most ring (rather, the edge of the minimap) is 100m. The smallest, inner-most ring, so close to your character, is 20m. Now look halfway inside that, and you have your Medium Suit's 10m Scan Range. That's not a whole lot. IIRC, a Gallente Scout can get himself somewhere up to 36m, although I've never tried it. Anyone want to do the math for me?

I disagree, EVERY percentage point you can get is worth it no matter What suit you fit. IMO |
