Honestly I have not thought much about the weapon and I do not know to much about it....But I was thinking that giving it a dam buff and adding in a quicker overheat might help it. not really sure...I am sure CCP has something planned for it with the next update soon after 1.8.
the dealt dmg isnt that bad.
Main fcore of the problem is, all the laser weapons are supposed to have the longest range from the rifles beside snipers. However CCP decided to give the longest ranged weapons a red-dot sight and weapons which should clearly be underneath the range of lasers a 2x zoom. trolololololo
Besides that the Rail Rilfe not only outranges the Lr, it also has a lot less disadvantages than the lr (overheat, no damage closer than 30m)
I mentioned this several times, the LR is a niche weapon and because of it huge disadvantages is really needs to be the god rifle in its supposed range, otherwise its just another sp sink. thats atleast how the laser was designee and how I personally think it should remain.

There is a problem with that logic. Rail technology has the longest range of any weapon type and laser technology follows it. The Rail Rifles effective range ismatched with the scrambler but the optimal range on the former outclassing the latter is a good example. But the Laser Rifle is a specialist weapon so yes it does have 'niche' so just trying to set the range where it probably has a longer range than the Scrambler but keep below the Rail Rifle would be a good start On topic of damage output like I said I do not know much about the weapon but I quickly overlooked a little bit of it now and maybe having a short 'warm up time' and increasing the base damage slightly yet having the overheat time quicker than the scrambler. All of this I guess would probably let the Laser Rifle focus and engage one target effectively at a long range slowly where as the scrambler lets you engaged multiple targets at long range quickly. It is a off the wall idea...but that is just my opinion.
A warm up phase for the laser would not make sense. Atm the laser is build so that the longer u shoot the more dmg it will do, onc u let the trigger go u start at base dmg of 17 again. That is already a warm up mechanic, u cant kill enemys effectively if you shoot directly at them, a good lr usershoots at an obstacle or the ground before he sweeps over to the actual enemy.
I don't have a problem with the range of the LR, I just think it needs an insane amount of damage. Yes I'm saying insane.
If you take a look at the disadvantages: -very limited range ( think its between 60-80m where the LR is working efficient) -overheat mechanic -warm up - last but not least very visible shot so every enemy instantly knows where you are
To justify this amount of disadvantages this weapon not only needs to be king, but it also deserves to be absolutely superior within its 20m effective range.
Don't get me wrong, Imdon't want an OP LR. But if you seriously want to balance this weapon, with that downsides and you don't want to enhance the actual range this weapon needs to slaughter in its supposed range, the only counter measurement to engage a LR user should be to get closer or to pick up a weapon with even longer range, but in a toe to toe fight between LR and other guns, in the LR effective range, the LR NEEDS to dominate, otherwise you can erase the complete weapon.
