So... I have noticed this for a long time and are wondering what everyone thinks about this.
MLT and STD die and hate on everyone who has better gear than them. "You only won because of your better gear"
ADV cries at Proto and screams "protosomping!"
Proto nags at people who use officer weapons. "Wow really? Officer in a pub?"
One thing I am curious about is why no one hates on people who run ADV? ADV is still very strong and can easily destroy people in MLT and STD.
The way I see it, people ALWAYS complain about something they get beaten by because no one really admits defeat. They all just say it's crap and they should have won. (They should always win because they are obviously superior than anyone else in the world lol)
ADV players complain a lot about Protos yet they are running the 2nd most powerful tiered suits and 3rd most powerful tiered weapons...
It is like someone complaining about a guy using an officer weapon yet they are running proto. "How dare he run an officer weapon in a pub! It's not like I am running strong gear too!"
So... isn't running ADV gear while complaining about proto and officer hypocritical? ADV gear is strong and can easily smack around MLT and STD.
Also, if another dropsuit that is tiered above Proto comes out and people spam it in pubs. How much you want to bet proto won't be bad anymore but that new tier will be?
Either way, new players get screwed by everything no matter what tier it is because many do not know how to play and get tossed into the same games as everyone else.
Side note: Proto is called proto because it is a prototype (obviously). Aka, it is a test suit, an experiment so... what would the final version be? Imagine the slaughter in pubs... holy ****.

The whole "prototype" tier instantly reminded of the trend in Gundam where the hero always some super prototype mecha that stomps everything else.

I try to help out as many new players as possible. I've seen so many get stomped with the first match and then quit.
But, It is what it is, So far. You just have to be determined to keep playing. Which is sometimes hard to do.
For my ck.0 Logistics, I run it pretty much all the time. I usually end up spending 80% of the match reviving, repping and dispersing ammunition. I just use my Proto-Suit because of its CPU/PG allowances for my Proto-Equipment.
I rarely use my ADV stuff and I should probably make fits for them.

If the amount of different types of gear in EVE is any indication, then there is a lot of room in Dust to grow with dropsuits, weapons, modules and vehicles.
The items in EVE range from basic, faction, tech 2, tech 3, pirate, storyline, deadspace and officer items. Who knows if dust will ever get another higher tier of items, but EVE lore would definitely allow it.

I don't really care about people using advanced. The reason is that it is the best gear we have to fight proto stompers without going proto ourselves.

Personally, I don't care what anyone runs. I have a suit that is a MLT Shotgun on a Proto Caldairy assault with 3 KitKats. I like being a pretend scout sometimes :D

The community is not complaining about advanced suits because they don't care about advanced suits. You're suggesting that they should care, but your premise is incorrect. You believe this is about winning and losing, when really it's about the cost of winning and losing. Therefore, with advanced gear use being relatively attainable from an SP and maintainable ISK standpoint, the community isn't up in arms about it.
Let me break it down for you. You can put together an all advanced suit for between 30K and 55k ISK. You can run a few of those and break even in a single skirmish making between 150k and 250k ISK per match. Proto suits cost around 200k to 250k ISK, so dying a few times means you wipe out 5-10 games worth of ISK gains, not including the cost of the suits used in those games. The visceral response to proto comes in when people who have billions from closed beta and PC can play in suits that cost more than they gain in a match and other players cannot do that. So the non-billionaires get killed, lose money, are farther away form having billions to run proto, and it feels unfair. Unfair feels unfun.
This is also why you don't hear a giant cry to nerf passives. Passive bonuses greatly attribute to winning, gear aside, but those are attainable to the player base with time and the players without them can stay ISK positive. Again, pro V helps a lot, but you can do a lot with pro III passives. |

Again, pro V helps a lot, but you can do a lot with pro III passives. 1. I am not suggesting anything, I made the thread to see what everyone thinks. I like to perform social experiments :P
2. I didn't mean it as "Winning or losing" but as being able to move around with dying in less than a second when someone in ADV gear or Proto sees you. (that can be considered winning or losing depending on what you consider as winning or losing)
3. You can use Proto in pubs and still have a positive isk income (I do). ADV could be harmful to your wallet too if you die a lot and have ADV tiered gear all over it.
4. you are right about SP and getting ADV gear but it is still a wait, just not as long as going for Proto.
5. Proto can be around 100 to 130K (like mine) and still destroy everything on the field that walks. I am able to run proto every game and many times I kill myself when goofing around with friends. You can still go positive isk wise. I turn down paychecks, give money to people for no reason, play PC when I feel like it, and always run proto often. I have 1 million isk with over 30 proto suits and have been having the same amount for around... 4 to 5 months. (I just reached 1 mill isk lol). Of course, maybe i'm just an exception and are very good at managing my isk. :P
6. I agree with the passive skills part

Unlike prototype gear, it is very easy to get into advanced gear and even new players can have decent advanced fits after a couple weeks. And unlike prototype gear, you don't need to be farming ISK from locked districts in PC to fund advanced gear in public contracts.

What I'm trying to say is you need to be making a profit elsewhere if you are going to run proto full time in public contracts. Right now that profit for most protostompers is coming from district locking. In the past it came elsewhere, like from successful PC campaigns or running a bunch of matches in free gear so you can run a few in proto.
My point is that it is not unreasonable to run advanced gear in publics full time so you won't hear many people complaining about people running advanced in pubs.

I must be honest and say that I do not believe you run a 100-130k proto suit 24/7 and are suggesting that you run positive isk-wise from the matches you play. Are you certain you have really had less than 1million isk for more than 4 months, running full time proto...and making a profit?
And you're suggesting that many players do this. There must be a great deal more to this game that I am missing because that is really hardto believe. |

I run prototype suits with adv weapons.
My opinion on the matter is that prototype weapons are too expensive to be running in normal pub matches for the marginal increase in damage they bring. If you're using prototype weapons, you're most likely some PC player who makes a ton of isk and can afford to run prototype all day every day.
The extra isk cost, cpu/pg is not worth it. I can do just as good if not better with a std or advanced weapon.
Like, the other day I saw someone go 36/10 with a militia shotgun on a std suit. I respect good players like that. I do'nt respect people who win becauuse they have so much isk...not because they actually have skill.
