I saw something this morning that caught my attention....
I am at work and my boss (age 49) was playing World of Tanks on his laptop. We all have laptops at our desks and I have a Playstation 3 hooked up at my desk. I mess with Dust occasionally at work right?
Well we were discussing games and he mentioned a few things in WoT that were similar to what Dust does and I started complaining about the tank spam and all the little pansy ass players in this game and he said "You don't have artillery?"
and I was like o.O wuuut? He was like look....and he launched into a game of WoT. He showed me how on the map the tanks are moving around and they're hard to catch because they move constantly but as soon as they stop...he drops an artillery shell on them and BOOM! DEAD!
Its raining death from the sky....and he's like you guys don't have that? I was like no...tanks rule the land and he says "Well that's just stupid"
I got to thinking about it....and you know what? I agree. Why do we have tanks but not artillery?
I mean...it would be 1 person per team...someone would have to sit there and it should be where you couldn't kill infantry with it. That might be a smidge unrealistic but I feel like it should be that way so people can't sit in an artillery cannon and kill clusters of infantry. That would be worse than the damn tanks.
So LAV, HAV and DS (idk how that would work) should only be affected by artillery shells. If we're going to have crazy ass overpowered tanks and all that crap...we need to have field artillery cannons to deal with it. Obviously if the tanks were moving, because they are so fast...they would be hard to catch but if they stop and try to camp....BOOM. |

Two things:
1) Artillery is the Minmatar version of rails, i.e. it's the long-range tech of Minmatar, so it's coming.
2) Where do you work and are there any openings?
I contribute nothing.

That does not have to be like that. Gallante artillery could be like a large Plasma Cannon. The Caldari could fire kinetic bombardments. The Amarr could shoot laser projectors that fire lasers before hitting the ground. The Minmatar would use cluster bombs.

If we're talking about some dude sitting somewhere, head stuck deep into the TacMap just waiting for a vehicle to stop momentarily, no, I can't really get behind that. We already have Precision and Orbitals for that kind of stuff.
Also:

The PLC is already artillery and is incapable of hitting a moving tank. It just doesn't have the power that would be necessary. |

Clip for those not familiar with the world of tank's artillery mechanics.
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

I'd rather have more heavy weapons and the current maps with the current redline would only increase redline camping but I admit it, arty would be awesome :)
