Another paper that doesn't give a flying weasel about the game, but rather the money involved.

For the record, CCP created a Dev Blog on the battle as well.
Some key facts:
11 Trillion ISK in loss. (CCP's estimate for that is 300-330k USD)
7000+ unique players participated. Max 2400 in system at once.
Battle lasted ~21 hrs.
75 titans destroyed (1 on the way there), previous record was 12. |

Um... that's a Business site. BUSINESS! Of course they don't care about the gameplay of Eve Online (let alone that of Dust). It's a economic environment that catches their attention because the economics in Eve is an excellent social experiment to watch.

I could buy a house for that much. Or a Lamborghini Or a Ferrari Or..... That's the presumed value of the assets. Possibly 20-80% would have come from ingame collection instead of direct purchase, which would mean that the true value of money used in the fight was less than the estimates but because it is nigh untrackable they can only give the theoretical value as a result. And that value is not even the theoretical max. Say a chunk of money had been traded for a chunk of ISK, then that ISK was used to purchase an ingame item, then that ISK was again traded for money... that chunk of ISK now has double the expediture cost of the other ISK as it is in ciculation. Conversely, the ISK generated from inside the game and circulated purely inside from mobs etc would have NO value whatsoever.

I'm just surprised that despite the coverage, CNN hasn't mentioned anything about it.

I wonder if no leviathans were lost because of some special ability that most people don't find out about because of how much people say citadel missiles suck. What if the leviathan is actually the best titan by miles?

The economy of EVE is even studied in some college business classes. As someone already stated, it is an interesting social experiment.
The real value players put on assets in EVE is what makes losing ships so painful. While not as in-depth, the same is true in Dust. Dieing sucks.
No other game can give you the high after a great kill, or the low after a huge loss like EVE and Dust. That's what makes these games unique, frustrating and addicting.
Also to the above poster, the leviathan is by far the worst titan in the game. The shield bonus it gives are worthless since most massive fleets are armor based. This is why few people even have them. In my four years playing eve I have only seen one on scan, and it was in a pos. |

But think about it, it's the only titan type that wasn't killed, with the ones that died having the potential to be or are armor tanked. Call it a crackpot theory, but maybe people just give it a reputation for being bad because of how good it actually is, also I'm sure fleet composition matters less for titans, since if I'm not mistaken they can't be remote repaired after firing the doomsday, I could be wrong though.
But give it some thought, the archon is thought to be the best carrier because of it's tank, but apparently a chimera can match their ehp and do more dps.
