i was talking to some corp buddies about another post i made regarding making all equipment actively used rather than dumped and one of them came up with the conclusion that what i suggested would create the blackops scout.
i found this concept an interesting idea and very much a possibility with how eve works.
if this was ever to happen this could reduce the need for link spam and more a specialised role for scouts to get players into battle.
if it were ever to happen i envision it to work something like this.
scout suit cloaking device uplink bridge device (scout only)
the scout goes to a safe spawn area and drops his link (much like you would RE.). he then cloaks and infiltrates to where he is required. he then decloaks and activates the secondary function of his device (like setting of RE). the scout maintains this link as long as he can or wishes. during this time his allies can activate his initial device instantly teleporting them to the scouts location. if the scout is killed his uplink goes too.
each uplink would have varying stats such as time between players jumping in succession, how many times you can bridge the device and even range of the device.
with this in place it could be a great way to aid players in breaking a redline without everyone having to switch to cloaks.
any other suggestions welcome

Not bad, although uplinks serve the strategic funtion of this idea for the most part.
As cool as I think it is, I just don't see a gap in the market so to speak.
drop uplinks as i see them are broken for the fact they can be spammed anywhere without risk to anyone. yes they serve to allow players back into the fight as fast as possible but they also prevent those without from advancing. the only option is to meet spam with spam which as a game mechanic is stupid.
as it stands, i want to move someone into combat.do i use an lav, dropship, tank or do i just spam 20 uplinks as a team on the objective and get them to spawn in. problem with this is unless you destroy all uplinks before you attack the objective you will likely die due to someone spawning in on one of the other 19. with the bridging in it takes actual squad involvement to bring in players to reinforce objectives instead of waiting for someone to spawn in.
this would create a better balance and need for multiple roles within the team and squads.

Maken Tosch wrote:I like it. Eve Online has a similar thing with BlackOps ships that can activate a Cynosural Field ("Cyno" for short) which enables all Jump-capable ships within his fleet to lock into his position and jump an entire fleet into the system.
However, a Cyno consume a chunk of fuel (heavy water and Isotopes I believe) to activate it. If the BlackOps ship gets destroyed, the cyno signal is lost.
i was thinking more on the lines of a titan bridge. the bridge uplink aka titan comes supplied with enough fuel for "X" amount of jumps. the cloaked scout holds the link aka cyno to lock onto

i think it puts an emphasis on teamwork while still letting those classes that need to solo to do so. i just want a more rounded team buildup where all roles are important to each other

Denak Kalamari wrote:So basically you want black ops battleships into DUST as light frame specializations? Honestly, not a bad idea at all. Although the effective use of this suit would be very limited, which I'm not sure it would work in DUST.
its effect is only limited by the fact we have drop uplink spam. spam in itself is what's game breaking because it has little actual player input and the new changes for logi just further emphasises spam which i think is a wrong way to go.

I suppose if the WPs were high enough this would be much easier for me.
i see it working similar to dropships deployment so as not to be farmed but with a higher wp reward than current levels due to the dangers of maintaining it and the time allowed to gain wp. the closer you are the higher the risk but the more chance of wp's being awarded. this should bring balance in itself

i'm a logi and i feel like i'm forced to spam equipment. i just don't see its purpose in dust when we have other options already in game that were originally meant to do the role such as dropships.
we have DS and scouts struggling to find purpose and its mostly down to spam of uplinks.
do you risk your dropship picking up friendlies to drop off in a hot zone full of blue uplinks. the same goes for a scout, do you attempt to sneak into enemy controlled territory to drop an uplink that players may or may not use as there are hundreds others scattered around the area.
thinking about that how about this as an alternative.
dropship is the "titan bridge" scout is the "cyno"
give the dropship bridge module a limited range so they have to pick up and get within a certain range before locking on. at this point players jump in to the scouts location from the dropship.
now we have dropships either dropping off players in the open or strategically via a jump bridge into a tactical location they wouldn't have access to as a dropship.
dropship jump bridge and CRU could be a very powerful tool with the help[ of a scout

well its 1 of 3 suggestions i have made. either way they all rely on linking to a scout who becomes the spawn point for a limited amount of time. i think that is the key point to work on. the infiltration of a single unit to aid in the infiltration of a squad without all the spam which says "hey im here"

Venerable Phage wrote:So the OP is suggesting a light frame equipment slot that mimics a CRU?
Problem being a scout is having a low profile and having someone tag along with a high profile if you are being sneaky. It can work to you advantage when an attacker jumps around the corner and is hit by twice as much firepower as he thought was there.
But in general because of scanner spam uplinks get found pretty quick as do people with high (normal) profiles. So a scout will either drop a link and move away quickly or have to perch somewhere nearby to cover the link as reds will scan and then sit nearby and pick off the blues coming in.
Anything that blows the cover of a scout better be good. Also strictly speaking the black ops role would be a combination of high level scout and logistic skill.
remember the scout is infiltrating and gets to choose when and where to deploy the feature. so if its safe its safe unless there is an enemy scout about but for all intensive purposes you are going to be invisible or heavily dampened untill you deploy in which case friendlys will spawn and protect you

ccp i want this.... at the moment i'm doing it with uplinks but its not very efficient and relies on your squad being dead first or suiciding to do it.
