What would they be? Me? Why, I'm so glad you asked.... Picture this.
"You are redlined, your whole team has pretty much resigned themselves to sniping or waiting out the match in the MCC. 3 tanks are lined up on the redline, daring anyone to try to peek out or attempt to sneak past with proto suits weaving around them, trying to pick off any targets before the tanks spot them. Off on the far edge of the field, one lone cloaked scout manages to sneak past the siege and creep into the AI socket, checking for RE's with every step he takes. Once he's certain he's clear he de-cloaks, tosses an uplink and hacks the point. Suddenly the AI socket that's been sitting there backing the enemy up on it's redlining ways any time your infantry came to close to it turns on the enemy! There's an uplink in there too! Infantry has a secure place to spawn with massive suppressive fire backing them from the socket, and the match has just become a whole new ballgame!"
Dust right now consists of destructible installations which can be hacked, and invincible capture points that do damage to the other team's MCC. Some installations can be used to kill with, others to resupply ammo and change fits, and still others can be captured to add a spawn location for your team.
We need capture points that actually do something different, something that can be a GAME CHANGER and makes teams actually WANT to work together. We need sockets in the map that can be hacked and taken over by infantry that are indestructible (like the current capture points), but pose a huge threat to the opposing team when owned. Something so important to the success of your team that it is at least as important as the capture points themselves. Here are my thoughts:
Anti-Infantry Socket - When owned, this socket targets any infantry within line-of-sight of this socket's weapon in an area starting 40m away from the base of the socket stretching up to 90m away. This socket will fire a high powered laser/blaster/whateverit'sdecideditwillbe at infantry, causing severe damage quickly to any infantry that remains within it's killzone. This socket should only be able to lock onto people above a certain scan profile to allow true stealth players to sneak past it's weapon's targeting system. (This socket will fire on infantry in LAV's but not the LAV itself. It will not fire at infantry in dropships unless the bay doors are open)
Anti-Vehicle Socket - When owned, this socket auto target's any vehicle that comes within line of sight of it and get's within 80m of it with high-powered rail projectiles. This socket should only be able to lock onto vehicles that are either on the ground or below a certain altitude, making dropships a target only when they fly below a set distance from the ground.
All hack points on these sockets should be completely unviewable from outside the socket to prevent long-range camping of the hack point itself. There should also be at least two ground entrances to the hack point, and at least one roof entrance. (we have enough campable hack points already)
What this does to Dust: (Totally an example of a possible scenario, not per-sey how it should be set up on this map)
Imagine.... say you are playing on Manus Peak. At map coordinates 9G there is an Anti-Infantry Socket, a tall structure with an inclosed navigable interior and a console you have to hack to gain control of it.
When captured by the team at the south end, this structure helps prevent the enemy infantry from flanking around behind B from that side of the map and also keeps people from pushing B from A, forcing them to go to C to get to B instead. This is detrimental to infantry's health, as this road area of the field is open to fire coming in from everywhere. Alternatively, a dropship pilot can air-drop infantry in to attempt to hack the socket or a tanker can APC a couple of players in past it's defenses.
When the team at the north end owns this socket, it provides heavy fire support to the eastern side of B for the attacking forces coming from A, as well as giving suppressive fire on any incoming infantry trying to push for A from B. This once again forces the infantry out into the open areas of the map unless they are ferried in by vehicles, or if they can sneak through with low scan profiles.
Now then, add in an Anti-Vehicle socket as well, this built right into the cliff face at G5/6. Having this high-powered AV socket means that the busiest roadway in the map is covered by whomever maintains control of this socket. If you want to get a vehicle past this point, you have to make sure you support your infantry players so they can reach it and hack it for you.
No matter which team holds this socket, it will hold any enemy vehicles from taking C moving past it in any direction without having to go far around it's radius into the very uneven terrain around the Anti-Infantry socket.
Results: You have a means of canceling a redline match with one single hack. You have a means of flipping a loosing match into a winning match by using teamwork, stealth, strategy, planning, whatever your forte is. You have a means of using teamwork to overcome proto stomping and tank spam, no matter if it's one squad or the whole other team doing it. And you have to be constantly vigilant, because the enemy can do the same.
And, most importantly, it could all be done with two.... simple.... hack points.......
