What if this kind of skill tree existed?
Dropsuit Command = Refundable for every Y SP benchmark Dropsuit Upgrades = Non refundable Same with vehicles.
The reason I bring this up is because I have been on ridiculously biased games where newbs just went 0/X where X is 10 or greater.
Then I see my corp mate on the otherside gets number one in Ambush with 2 kills because he can logi all day. Logi work is actually very easy to accomplish, yet vital. So here is a hypothetical suggestion for the evolution of newbs:
Logistics > Generic Suit > Heavy or Scout or Assault (Minimal kills/skill required to compete) > (Some Degree of kills/skill/strategy required) > (Most skill/strategy/strategy required, the niche suits)
So basically you start newbs off as the lowest chain. They do all the non combat work and are rewarded well and thus progress well. Then after X skill points their Dropsuit Command is unallocated, allowing them to evolve to an Assault (or dive right into the other suits if they wish). So now they have enough SP to start competing in the combat essence so they can pick up a combat oriented suit. However Dropsuit upgrades is not refunded (nor weaponry) thus forcing them to stick with module/playstyle decisions, such as Armor or Shields, Speed Tanking or Stealth, etc..
Then they get the final unallocation of dropsuit command and make the final decision. After that it's forever that role.
This is purely hypothetical and I am not actually suggesting it but theoretically it would give noobs a standing chance to grab some WP without having to dedicate themselves to the art of WP farming forever, just temporarily until they have enough SP to stand on their own.
I mean lets be honest, logistics is rewarding, noncombative, and essential to the game. It requires a little cooperation and equipment, no gun game required. Assaults are naturally essential as well but can't really compete so well at lower levels unless you catch an upperhand somehow.
Same thing with vehicles, start them off with the lowly job of waterboy and have them work their way up if they wish.
Again completely hypothetical evolution of a noob in a hypothetical scenario where the game tries to support noobs.
