Boarding Vessel would be a high slot module for Capital ships in EVE that acts like a probe deployed from a probe launcher, if it hits a capital ship whose shields are up it is destroyed and lost, if it hits a capital ship in armor or structure the ship become immobilized and invulnerable for the length of time necessary for a Merc battle to occur.
Either the Mercs fight to the engine room and initiate a self destruct or storm the bridge and kill the eve pilot However it happens, the goal is to remove control of the capital ship and transfer it to whomever the Mercenaries choose.
The battle itself would operate like a skirmish for control of the ships engines, or a domination to kill the pilot (or rep him/ her depending on your side)
Of course this would mean more coding, and of course it would mean new maps. The biggest point is that mercenaries would and could be a deciding factor and real threat in the world of EVE online.
Any thoughts?
Definitions: Capital ships- Really BIG ships with millions of EHP and people get really pissed when they die. High slot - A slot normally used for interactable items like scanning probes/ weapons/ energy vampires EvE pilot- The people in chat with faces. Shields/ Armor/ Structure - Slap yourself. I think it is a cool idea, but I'm not sure it's feasible. Either the attacking ship has to stop fighting when the boarding party is aboard, which means the opposing ship has chance to repair and potentially gtfo or the pilot launching the bording craft keeps shooting and likely destroys the ship before the Dusties can complete their mission. A supercap is the size of a city, whilst I 'm sure there are forms of rapid transit aboard, think how long it can taken to drive from one side of a city to the other, add in combat, clearing each area so you don't get attacked from behind and keeping your supply chain, and that adds more time.
The other problem is if the other ship doesnt have mercs aboard, it gets pretty boring. Unless you're suggesting PvE opponents.
There are other arguments against it, but I'm on my phone at dinnertime and I have to get back to work. I may post more later.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.
