Ok... so I am in this super futuristic suit of armor.
I can use it to jump hundreds of feet out of my MCC or a drop ship and I survive by popping open my giant energy couch cushion to land in.
I can carry hundreds of pounds of ammo and weapon around.
I can see hundreds of kilometers and pick off a head shot with my sniper rifle.
I can launch orbital strikes with the push of a button and the response of a fellow EvEian.
But I can't lay in the prone position like nearly every other first person shooter game on the blasted market.
WTF???
Seriously, it's one extra button push.
Can an old Soldier get some prone position please? |

That, by definition, is going to be over 100,000 meters. The Sniper Rifle's range isn't even close to 1,000 meters. At 100-200 meters (0.1-2%) you can only barely distinguish someone's head from the rest of their body. You're exaggerating. By around three orders of magnitude.
Meh. |

Seriously. |

Alena Ventrallis wrote:Certain suits could be exempt from going prone. Heavies, for instance. Everyone else, theres no ergonomic reason not to.
Negative... they could have a small portable tripod that would kick out from the bottom... much like you used to pop out the bipod on an HMG on COD or Ghost Recon.
Everybody gets prone, the weapon just means you get to go prone in different ways and at different speeds.
Like...
... a heavy with an HMG, goes prone real slow and has to set up his weapon to get there. ... or a light scout suit armed with a ultra light plasma rifle can hit the ground on the run and be up and down in seconds.
A little more realistic.

Echoist wrote:Why even go prone? Wih the TTK we have now you'd just be setting yourself up for an easy head shot. And lets not start with the hit detection with sniper rifles, those red line assholes would abuse this prone so that you wouldn't even be able to touch them. Sorry but I'd say let CCP fix hit detection and TTK before adding this feature.
Problem with your logic... NOT going prone means that this game is TOO easy. It's like fighting in WOW for pete's sake. |

Seriously, it's one extra button push. And going prone in several of them cause exploits (jump, prone, crouch as I recall). Like we need more exploits in Dust514. Which button are you talking about? Last I checked they are all accounted for. Except in a vehicle, if that is what you mean then we must be talking about a different game. Going prone in a tank might get you killed.
Mash and hold the crouch button and it could be made to go prone. |

Aim botters would still get you, vegetation doesn't pop in until after players so you won't be able to use cheap COD-style camping tactics, and you would sacrifice even more mobility simply getting up or down. Also, they would have to add recoil to the guns for there to be a difference when you go prone.
I just don't want to be trying to simply duck behind cover and launch into a nap while my squad is getting shot to pieces.
Apparently, none of you plays COD or BATTLEFIELD, doing a running prone drop is a fully useful tactic in both and it is how many fighters get kills and avoid getting killed. You run around, someone comes running up in front of you, he starts shooting you in the chest, as you shoot him, you drop to the prone and he is still firing over your head while he dies.
End of story. |

Why does it have no place? It is a completely viable tactic... one, I might add, that has saved the lives of RL Soldiers as well. Haji comes popping around the corner, tries to smash your face in with his rifle, you barrel punch him in the chest, fall backwards to your butt and put two in his chest one in his head, get up and slay the rest.
Perfectly viable tactic. |

Perfectly viable tactic. I didn't say it wasn't effective, but it makes for boring gameplay. Who can mash prone the fastest and adjust for their opponent doing the same? No thanks, not fun. Mechanics like that also encourage the use of modded controllers. RL has nothing to do with games, that argument holds no water.
So if RL has nothing to do with games, then why are there FPS's based on nearly every major war the human race has ever fought in the last 3000 years?

BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU!
Plus the minmatard filth would have an unfair advantage blending in with the garbage laden dirt.
Riiiiight... so it DOESN'T scratch when I hit you in the face with my bullets??? |

CCP did say when releasing DUST514 that they wanted to immerse us in New Eden, when we're fighting of the battlefield, why not add these features in to improve immersion, because at the moment i don't feel any immersion from the game, it just feels arcade-ish...
Amen to that, it feels almost cartoonish to me. Like a bad Duck Dodgers episode. |
