Aim botters would still get you, vegetation doesn't pop in until after players so you won't be able to use cheap COD-style camping tactics, and you would sacrifice even more mobility simply getting up or down. Also, they would have to add recoil to the guns for there to be a difference when you go prone.
I just don't want to be trying to simply duck behind cover and launch into a nap while my squad is getting shot to pieces. Apparently, none of you plays COD or BATTLEFIELD, doing a running prone drop is a fully useful tactic in both and it is how many fighters get kills and avoid getting killed. You run around, someone comes running up in front of you, he starts shooting you in the chest, as you shoot him, you drop to the prone and he is still firing over your head while he dies. End of story.
Drop-shotting is an incredibly stupid mechanic, and one that has no place in Dust, nor any FPS. If you want to drop shot, go the f--k back to your twitch shooters. |

Why does it have no place? It is a completely viable tactic... one, I might add, that has saved the lives of RL Soldiers as well. Haji comes popping around the corner, tries to smash your face in with his rifle, you barrel punch him in the chest, fall backwards to your butt and put two in his chest one in his head, get up and slay the rest. Perfectly viable tactic.
I didn't say it wasn't effective, but it makes for boring gameplay. Who can mash prone the fastest and adjust for their opponent doing the same? No thanks, not fun. Mechanics like that also encourage the use of modded controllers.
RL has nothing to do with games, that argument holds no water. |

Wow, way to deliberately misinterpret my point. Things that are effective in real life do not necessarily make for a FUN game. Just because something works a certain way IRL does not mean that a good game should have it work that way. Dust is not meant to be realistic. It's a ridiculous, made-up, fantastical environment, built specifically for us to play in. Arguing that "this works IRL, so it should work in Dust" is like saying "I saw it in an action movie, so I'm going to do it in real life". |
