Aero Yassavi Praetoriani Classiarii Templares Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris 6051	Posted - 2014.01.28 17:34:00 - [1] - Quote Commando Challenge Event Type: Badass Dates: Now - Uprising 1.8 Grand Prize: 50,000,000 ISK (may increase, won't decrease) Channel: Commando Squadron Moderators Aero Yassavi Fire of Prometheus T'orq Thanjac True Adamance Wurm FOOD Description While everyone was busy theory crafting about Uprising 1.8, the fine folks from the Commando Registry were working up an event as a farewell to Uprising 1.7 and a farewell to the Commando suits as we know them. Starting from right now and lasting until the launch of Uprising 1.8, the Commando Challenge will be taking place. The premise is very simple, whoever can record the best score from a single match as a commando during the event will receive the entirety of the grand prize, which currently sits at 30 million ISK. And since it is widely believed there will be at least a Dropsuit Command respec in Uprising 1.8, might as well skill into the commando now so you can compete for the prize! Scoring So how do we determine who had the best match? Easy, we use the following equation, Score = (Kills x 2) + (Assists x 1) + (Warpoints / 25) - (Deaths x 2) Since a kill is 50 warpoints and an assist is 25 warpoints, this will make kills a total of 4 points, assists 2 points, deaths minus 2 points, and other little actions still contributing towards your score. Rules In order to qualify for the event, you must submit two pictures from the end of match screen. The first is the Battle Report, showing your kills, assists, and deaths, favorite suit, and favorite weapon. The second is the Killboard, showing your warpoints and confirming whether or not a moderator was on your team. A moderator must be on your team to qualify. This moderator will be required to confirm the validity of your entry. Moderators can be found in the Commando Squadron channel in-game. A moderator may qualify for the event, but cannot be his own moderator. A second moderator will be required to confirm the validity of the first moderator's entry. All entries must use the Commando the entirety of the match. All entries cannot use the sniper rifle. We want people proudly toting around the Commando suit, not hiding in the red line. All entries cannot use vehicles, you must get your kills and points on foot. LAVs for transportation purposes only are fine. All entries cannot be squad leader nor be the subject of a defend order. Closing Message We from the Commando Registry are very excited to be hosting this event, and hope you all enjoy your time playing as Commando, even if it's just temporary and you skill out of it in Uprising 1.8. A moderator may qualify for the event, but cannot be his own moderator. A second moderator will be required to confirm the validity of the first moderator's entry. If performance captured with a capture card, a moderator is not needed to be in the match, as a moderator can simply watch the video and confirm. All entries must use the Commando the entirety of the match. All entries cannot use the sniper rifle. We want people proudly toting around the Commando suit, not hiding in the red line. All entries cannot use vehicles, you must get your kills and points on foot. LAVs for transportation purposes only are fine. If entry is squad leader, entry cannot use squad orders or orbital strikes. All entries cannot be subject of a defend order. I got an even better one two matches afterwards though. One thing I've realized playing commando so much these past two days is that you are best at laying down support/cover fire for your team. I'm so used to playing right up with everyone else, or being the one scouting ahead of everyone... The best way I've found to play commando is to stay back behind your allies and profide overwatch for your team with a long-range weapon, while still being able to push with your team when needed with a short-range weapon. Your slow shield recharge makes the suit very fragile and slow to recover, but as long as you stay far enough away from the fight and provide uplink spawns, armor repairs, and scans from a distance, it's really an effective suit. I used it mostly like a mobile sniper with the scrambler rifle charge shot. I'd pick people off from a distance, or make sure they wouldn't get too close to me. There's no way I'm going to be able to score more than 30 kills in a commando suit. I need to be much more mobile for that. My best matches were 20/5 and 25/9 with around 1700 wp each. As for not posting any footage yet...I will after the weekend. I just got done editing the first half, and I have 3 days straight of work before I can actually upload the thing. Just another one of the many stupid glitches I'm getting within this game. Sometimes I miss never seeing tanks in a battle... then I remember the mystical flying soma, and I can't help but smile.

It's been over three months since 1.7 and without this challenge the game would have become a lot more boring and monotonous so thanks to Aero Yassavi for setting it all up. In my opinion the commando is viable in public matches but in competitive play I don't really see it being an option other than niche roles like 'home' point defence where there are long range engagements. The people that run commandos are weird. They like to feel underpowered. People use the commando to feel gimped and to still wreck face with it. It's more of a "I just killed you with a commando" type thing at least that's why I like it. Most of the time I run a commando when I want a change although I frequently run it on Manus Peak. I tried a lot of different weapon combinations and my favourite was the Laser Rifle and Combat Rifle. When I ran the advanced frame I had an armor repair and a myofibril stimulant (gotta love those melee kills). I tried running profile dampeners and kinetic catalyzers as well. Come 1.8 I plan on going into Gallente commando. Thanks to Thanjac for being my moderator for game after game after game. There were the good times and the times that I raged uncontrollably and I'm not sure how you put up with it.
