In PC, there is generally a huge volume of communication that needs to occur, on both the squad and team level.
As it stands now, this game provides zero functionality in this regard. Not only can we not easily switch channels, but we cannot even properly mute players to make staying in a single channel viable for proper team comms.
I don't expect a miracle of ingenuity in this regard, but can we at least get some comment from CCP on how long it will take them to fix the ability to mute players in a channel? I assume it is more than one issue, because without the mic bubbles, you can't even select a player to mute, as well as the old mute all functions not working properly, and maybe even more problems.

I propose open mic in squad chat, with push to talk in team chat (at the same time).
Although I do agree that the chat bubble issue needs to be fixed.

Fox, that'd be a really nice solution. I'm not sure whether or not their voice client can support it though. I might have to play with EVE voice and see what it's limitations are. I know you can be in multiple voice channels, but only have one set to "talk". Whether or not they can exceed that limitation is definitely on Vivox, their communications provider. And being in multiple voice channels would likely exacerbate the existing lag issues caused by audio.

What we do is have the squad leaders on constant comms while the rest is on push to talk, non leaders can then turn push to talk on if they are reporting intelligence or have a request. While many agree that the chat bubble is annoying I don't think it is at such a stage where it needs to take priority. Depending on how easy it is to fix the glitch it could be done shortly. A more pressing bug that needs attention is the voice glitch.
As for been in multiple channels at the same time I can not see this happening. First as Soraya states it will create lag, second who would want to conversations going through their headset at once?

there's a lot to be desired for communication systems in this game. Futuristic game with the com systems of world war 1. You would think we would be able to ask a team mate for ammo and heals and just about anything important without voice comms.

The comms system does need to be updated and put as a multi-channel communication that can be cycled with a single button press, but asking for ammunition and heals etc. is something I'd couple with Equipment Icons under each 'allied' player's names.
No point asking the Assault running with Uplinks for 'Medical' or 'Ammunition'. In games such as BF3, BF4, etc. there is a class-based system that tells you who has the capability to carry what, in DUST, we have a much more flexible arrangement with how we run, so icon indicating Allied Equipment would be a great plus.

Fatal Absolution runs upon a strict mandate to always carry core locus nades. Since Attorney and I refuse to spend the SP to get them, we have been banished to squad chat by our eternal leader Zatara. Please give me a respec so I can be allowed in team chat!
Seriously though, this bug has gone on for way too long. This causes confusion, miscommunication, and frustration when trying to tier your comms to eliminate unnecessary chatter. The last time the comms system worked was in 1.2 possibly. At the time CCP did a test that found considerable latency coming from a full team chat. They fixed the latency problem, but at the same time ruined the comms system by making the appearance of mic's random. This should not go though another update without being fixed, especially since there is an extended time before it is launched.
So about those vehicle locks...

It's not linked to eve voice, but is made through a 3rd party. CCP has to go through the 3rd party to have some changes made, so timing is out of CCP hands tmk

DUST voice and EVE voice are one in the same. They are provided by the same third-party provider. You can voice chat between EVE and DUST in channels with ease.
