Yes, it sounds silly, but hear me out: Take a 16 vs 16 battle. Then reduce one team to a squad. 6 members. This team HAS to be a squad. The other team gets stocked up to 26 people. (Might be too much)
Team one is required to run proto gear. Team two is only allowed militia, provided that a full militia loadout is finally implemented. Otherwise standard equipment. Team two is not allowed to squad up and gets no orbitals. You could also possibly add an adjusted clone count, but this might be too hard on team one.
The idea of this mode is to have a bunch of uncoordinated blueberries in mlt/std loadout fighting a dedicated squad of protostompers. But, in contrast to the usual protostomps, this would actually be fun and challenging for both sides. I want to transform this weakness into a strength of the game.
That's the basic premise. I am not sure, however, what the win conditions should be. I guess a skirmish with two objectives might work for this. (A 6 man squad can't hold five objectives, no matter how good and overpowered they are. Maybe also Domination. Or it could be asymmetric - Stompers have an MCC, blueberries don't. Blueberries need to hold objectives, while stompers need to annihilate the berries. Holding less objectives is safer, but prolongs the match, while holding more grants a shorter match at a higher risk of elimination.
The rewards for the match could be interesting. For the stompers, it's a very good way to farm WP, while the blueberries might get proto salvage in decent numbers.

Exactly. Protostompers can have their fun by ripping apart less coordinated players. They will surely appreciate that feeling of empowerment. The other players, on the other hand, finally have a chance to strike back. The low number of proto players means that it's actually possible to win.
It's fun for the whole family. It could also be an ISK sink, because this skewed setup will mean lots of WP and thus SP for the the proto players. No need to also give them money. This will give incentive for the proto players to create more and more creative and efficient ways of getting the most WP out of murdering blueberries, which would make for entertaining Youtube videos. Blueberries, on the other hand, should get a nice ISK payout and proper salvage, as well as the satisfaction of destroying lots and lots of proto gear. The after-match screen should have a statistic on how much ISK worth of proto gear was destroyed by each player. This is far better for both factions than to meet during pub matches.
I don't run proto gear and I'm lone wolf, but I'd love to be one of those blueberries. |
