No, I don't like RL stuff being dragged in at all and that name is so far back in our history, it seems stupid that they'd have that namne for anything.
Could you take that seriously calling mercs that? We are clone scum, accept it.
Sub human seems more fitting, upgrade our clones natural survivability and I believe we'd be worthy of a cooler name.
Something to do with data transfer seems more appropriate seen as our consciousness lives on regardless getting endlessly transferred from onre clone to the next. Our bodies are temporary whether we like it or not as clones.
Necromancer would be more appropriate, but iv just taken the name from a classic book that influenced hacking cultures greatly and inspired the matrix.

Clone soldier/trooper is the other name I use often for a more official term.
Then there's the dust bunny, which is more a derogatory name as you said already.
And then there's the infomorph, a person whose self is only defined by the information its brain carries, which could be a common name for both EVE and DUST players.
I have also heard the name operative being thrown about. It sounds like a too broad of a term for me, but it could work.
Elysian also sounds good to me.
Infoscum or infomorph is fine for me.
Elysion is far too great a title for us scamming, awoxxing, evasive ground dwelling rats, seriously, we do not deserve anything decent as a that.

These are more fitting regardless of anyone's deluded sense of honour or respectful attitudes in dust. How are capsuleers any different? They commit mass slaughter every day in the name of profit, they are equally worried about losing their precious spaceships. They are only copies as well, and also infomorphs. They might have more ISK and have more firepower, but this is only within their own closed capsuleer circles. In the grand scheme of things, the Empires still hold the ultimate power. Unless you plan on calling capsuleers with equal terms, you're being too radical. The extreme cynicism TechMech shows, and the overglorified power Luna claims are both too radical. We're soldier, not gods, not scum not worthy of the air we breathe, we're simply mercenaries.

Comparing capsuleers to dusters, wtf lol. Well what is yours backing? Dusters get paid more than any normal baseliner could ever even dream of, and capsuleers even moreso. And what is everyone but an asset to the corporation they serve, regardless if you're a duster, a capsuleer or a baseliner? And you seem to have the impression that dusters have no free will at all in who they choose to be their employers, where did you get this? You're speaking in broad and undefined terms, and you're claiming I don't have any backing? Luna Angelo wrote:....How do you figure that? I'm sorry, but the fact that mortals are a match for immortals makes me laugh. Then please, tell us your grand plan of how we infiltrate the most heavily defended facility in the world and disable all the cyno jammers in highsec space. And let me remind you, the whole concept of being a capsuleer, or a clone soldier is tied to our access to clones. And do you know who controls the clone reanimation units, or the clones in the first place? The empires and CONCORD. As soon as we would start to be even a minor threat to them, they can just deny access to all our clones and we would be done for. And let me remind you, even the mightiest of capsuleers need mortals to operate any ships bigger than a frigate. My point is, we have power. Power to take on fleets of ships with a single cruiser. Power to slaughter armies with a handful of clones. We're above the normal people physically, and often financially. But we are only as powerful as the empires let us. If you're still not convinced, I give up. You hold onto your foolish views, whatever.
And we are confined to spending that isk on more weapons and gear, we are not fit to live alongside humans.

It seems to me that you think all clone soldier will support your coup d'+Žtat......
I would stand against you and all like you to preserve the fragile balances of power our four nations hold, and the might and grandeur of my faith. Scum like you think they can own the galaxy.....but it is not yours to take. God gifted to the peoples of the Amarr to rule under the heavens for all time.
I understand, but I have a feeling, you are in the minority here. We are the future, the mortals and their ways are the past. I'm including your god in that, just so you know, as immortals don't need a god or heaven. Why would I care about a promise of everlasting life? I am immortal, I already have everything your god promises. What else does he offer?
Your consciousness is 'immortal'. Stored as data, owned and distributed by humans. We are allowed to walk freely within the confines of our contracts until we either complete or fail them, then its back to the database.

Eve Players get called Captains (though by nature of ship command) Capsuleer (by trade and lore is the name) Empyrean (by the Amarr)
Among those most common titles they do have a large number of derivatives and cultural references but for the game's context these are the only three used.
Enter Dust 514.
While we are soldiers of fortune, we're absolutely no different from an eve pilot on that aspect, they too get paid for their immortal services as do we.
I purpose we be named things more tangible usable and something not as confusing.
Operators - This covers a wide variety of play styles, and who is to say that dropsuits are not the only thing we suit up in? What if our MTACs are like living coffins similar to the warhammer dreadnought and starcraft dragoons. Operators are a type of highly specialized soldier but the name has yet to be widely used in eve lore on a significant level. An operator can perform such a large variety of roles on and off the field that it would not be in lore violation of being a mercenary.
Elysians and for the matching lore name calling from the Amarrians (from Geek Elysion pedion "Elysian field," where heroes and the virtuous live after death, from a pre-Gk. word of unknown origin) We been delivered from the clutches of death, and by Amarrian thinking delivered from the jaws of damnation and into a path of salvation.
So your thoughts? Actually, CCP calls the EVE players "Capsuleers" after the capsules that they are stuck in while piloting pod capable ships. Other references are made to "Pod Pilots" as well. But not "Captain" as the point of a pod capable ship is to reduce the crew to few or none. The pod pilot does all the work. If there was a Captain, it would be the head officer other than the pod pilot on the ship and more for traditional purposes. Operators wouldn't sit right with me. It is a term derived from "Special Ops" as in Special Operators. Since the new "immortals" are designated to replace the normal troops, they really aren't special ops but instead like an advanced soldier. They aren't infiltrating, assassinating, rescuing, etc. Empyreans refers to those capsuleers who when out to create empires out in unclaimed 0.0 security space. Because of the DUST 514 reference, the majority of people refer to DUST mercenaries as Dust Bunnies. It also can be referenced back to The Guristas who were the first to "liberate" the technology from the Amarr and distribute it to the other empires. Their symbol is a skull with bunny ears. I prefer the term GroPo (grow poe), short for Ground Pounder because that's what ground forces do as they cross over land, they pound the ground with their feet, their weapons, and their vehicles. Another term from Battletech was "popcorn" as they guys runnin around in suits on the ground would die like popcorn when hit with laser fire etc. In the end, a DUST Mercenary is EXPENDABLE. That is the whole point of hiring someone else to fight your battles. Another term that comes to my mind is "lemmings" because we all jump outa the MCC like a bunch of lemmings off a cliff. Maybe someone can come up with some cool thing based off the fact that we are always using dropsuits. Like "dropbears" or some such silliness. But in the end we are just a form of "augmented infantry". So maybe that is the name we would be called officially and Dust Bunnies would be the slang. But I still like the term gropos. ;)
This is good, no hyped 'cool' ridiculous nonsense. Just putting it how it is.
