I was thinking about how PVE game modes will likely need some form of unique loot I then realized this: Every drone you kill there could be a 25% chance of receiving that drone as loot .
You can buy 3 different designators from the store: Heavy designator, Medium designator, and Light designator.
The varying designators would go into the weapon slots and call in a single drones from your inventory of that type. Another drone can be called in once the current is recalled/destroyed. All designator would have a command menu with L1 and R1 activates the command. The designator also costs high cpu/pg in order to control these formerly rogue drones.
Heavy Designator: Heavy Weapon Slot
Calls in heavy drones
Menu offers attack (specific target), patrol (attack various targets in a area), proximity (defends owner and is default), and defend (defend set point) commands
Medium Designator: Light Weapon slot
Calls in medium drones
Menu offers attack (specific target), patrol (attack various targets in a area), proximity (defends owner and is default), and defend (defend set point) commands
Light Designator Light Weapon slot
Calls in light drones
Menu offers attack (attack specific target), hack (hack specific target but no WP gains from drone), triage (heal target), and proximity (defends owner)
All suits would only be able to have 1 drone active while being at a disadvantage in combat besides the commando which could have 2 drones or a drone and a light weapon. As you would guess each drone serves a purpose with the heavy drone being best for combat, medium drone is a weaker equivalent, and the light drone mainly offers support with low combat ability.

As some would guess you could easily make some interesting combinations like having a drone hack while you defend, becoming a super logi, allowing logis to more easily defend themselves, area control without investing players (homebases), and hacking distant unguarded objectives to gain a advantage.

How about suicide drones, for them pesky red zoners?
But in all seriousness, it sounds like fun... But to keep it fair, when a drone is killed, it should have a chance of landing on the guy who called it down and blowing them up. |

The entire time the drone is up the guy who called it is stuck with his secondary, also I was originally thinking drones could ignore the redline with the attack command.

From what I gathered watching the Fanfest 2013 keynote video, the special drone loot is going to be materials of some sort for selling to eve players to make things with. Of course that a long time ago and plans may have changed by now.
As to getting the drones as loot. Why would you want a bunch of drones that are so shot up they are nothing better than scrap metal?
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

I like the idea, but would prefer a little tweaking. Instead of a chance to get the drone you blow up I would prefer to have a chance to get the drones Motherboard or Central Cortex.
From here you can BUILD your escort drone, just the way you want. You get a selection of racial weapons or equipment.
The drone is always extra small, if you have seen the proposed sizes you will understand why. Instead of taking a weapon slot it uses equipment, equipping the control module brings up the drones command wheel.
Depending on the weapon or equipment determines the base behaviour.

The general idea of drones leaves me torn -
Do we make them expensive so they're used strategically (leaving them open to abuse by rich corps) or accessible to everyone to balance them out (and spamming them in every level)
Do we balance them with WP so they don't earn the user kills but grant the user a kind of token squad leader bonus? How would you feel to have your kill stolen by something another player idly left by an objective? or even if your own drone stole your kill?
Do we balance them with skills, making the generic drone purely reactive (i.e - stupid) while a fully skilled user's drones would actively seek out enemies?
That said I do really want them in the game. The concept is too cool. I'd want one to be like my personal bodyguard while I rep (and hide behind it)
It would also be nice for the Gallente to get some sort of bonus's for them.

A army of logibros went through the wreckage healing them, but yeah it doesn't take much to heal a merc that was shot 500 times, hit with a plasma explosion, cut, and hit by multiple explosive devices

love the drone idea but would rather see them either in PVE or small ones that hover around ur dropsuit and offer slight buffs 3% dmg mod or armor repair, shield regulator, energizer or extenders. |

There would probably be a few different game modes
Raid From the starmap you can find a cache district. You can then be sent there with a squad or alone to assault the cache compound, transport as much as possible to a safe point and from there leave the district. All the way during this AI drones and AI turrets will be attacking you. The only reward is salvage with a slice of standings and loss.
Damage control / Collateral Damage Rogue AI from clone banks and security drone hives have gone loose and its up to you to detect the position of the AI and destroy it. There are many skirmish control points that are linked together, and each point can be destroyed. the AI is inside a control point and its up to you to destroy the control point its in. the more control points you save, the higher the ISK payout.
Espionage / Sabotage Up to a squad is tasked with stealing data in a compound. They are given a Logistics MAV (an AI small turret, with a mobile CRU) for each player with limited clones. They also have a virus that can access the neural network of the compound to produce rogue drones. The main objective is to run in, gather the intel, and get out of the district. Two variations would be made, Espionage would give the player higher commission through ISK for making a lower footprint with getting the information and the MAV would carry a small amount of clones. The Sabotage variation would give the the player a higher LP and standing reward the more damage done before pulling out, and the personal MAV would carry larger amounts of clones. |
