Great write up, but as the last guy said most of the things you've outlined are probably known to the Dev's. Its just a question of priorities. Right now their priorities appear to be adding enough content to balance each race (Heavies, Mediums, Lights, Havs, Lavs, Dropships, and possible Mavs and MTACS), in the hopes of making this a competitive Lobby shooter and then tie more connections to Eve online (IMHO the real selling point behind Dust).
Also, 'the grind' is what FPS Players call playing the actual game. There is little to do in lobby shooters in general other than play the game match by match, moment to moment. And this is fun. As a consequence the rewards in Dust eventually pile up and we can purchase gear and unlock new gear. Its not 'grinding' in the WoW way i.e. fetch quests, partake in boring fight mechanics until you pass some arbitrary threshold and you are a little bit stronger compared to where you were before.
All in all good points, but remember there is very little RPG in Dust so approaching it from that standard is not going to be very fruitful.
As far as your possible solutions: immersion factor- feeling immersed in the game world, like ever game mattered would go along way to psychologically motivation people to play and play well. [[I see this as a fine thing to shoot for, but most of the time shooters are for the minute to minute action regardless of the long term implications. For things like FW adding a larger narrative through things like decorations and more feedback about the state of the FW proxy war would be a fine thing. Planetary Conquest on the other hand should have more consequences to victory and defeat. It should be like an intergalactic chess board where each match is a move. But until a crafting mechanic of some sort or more Isk sinks in general it is currently little more than a tempting pub match with slightly higher stakes and very little actual reward.]]
diversity- bringing in more diversity into dusts game modes would help spice things up abit. i.e. more vertical play, tunnels, cqc, ect [[I agree completely tunnels and more urban combat areas or even fighting inside of ships would be awesome]]
new gamemodes- speaks for it self if there where new game modes (tying into immersion) putting more onto the players list of options.
Non combat content/ non combat focused content- A symmetrical game modes or PvE where a target must be extracted but a merc suit would be to noticeable so a clone wearing normal gear (obviously a merc clone thats bigger and such but less suspicious then set up to be a war machine) a normal fight could be going on but a 3rd team is sent in to extract information from a lab, or remove a civilian asset. [[I could potentially see limiting FW PVE missions to a uniform for the faction in question but to take away a merc's drop suit is to take away much of what we are playingGǪBut giving players the ability to interact outside of battles would be great. Not sure how I feel about NPCs but know that I will avoid doing babysitting/rescue missions like the plague.]]
recon tasks, a recon merc or sqd could be sent in to scope out and area and use scanning equipment to take environmental details and such, but said area would be guarded by a over whelming force ie one not to be engaged but could be done if the team are MENTAL! also a element of extraction could be implemented giving a reason to move in and out from the facility. [[Covert ops missions would be a great way for scouts to shine, especially with the new cloaks. I would say have the other team made up of players with as few NPCs as possible because then it would be way to easy.]]
wreckage exploring / salvaging, if a ship is taken down mercs could be sent in to explore and salvage smaller useful parts not necessarily detectible on scanners for pilots. [[If you mean PVE missions where the narrative has Dust Mercs investigating a crashed ship then yes, that could be feasible. Having Dust Characters interacting in an actual Eve location would be a bridge too far IMHO.]]
The most OP weapon on the Dust Battle Field:
One good logi, one rep tool, and a heavy.
