Have PC change around drastically.
On Defense:
Have our bases be set up in a command center made by the Eve players. Have whatever design they use appear on Dust maps for battles. Have the command center have a merc quarters for whatever dust corp they hire to defend their base. Multiple command centers on different planets could be defended by a single Dust corp, membership numbers allowing. Our merc quarters would be transferred from our npc merc quarters we have now to the command center we are to be defending, making it a little more personal to win. Have a firing range (test out fits, practice tactics, etc.) perhaps even go out onto the battlefield (which is the command center and the outlying area) and practice tactics out there.
Perhaps you could go outside and see where any given battle would take place. As the objective would be the capture or destruction of the command center, CCP would only have to render the CC (command center) and the surrounding area. You can then see what areas are easily defended, and which are vulnerable. Perhaps you find places to funnel the enemy into killzones, areas to set up minefields for enemy tanks, things of that nature. All battles would be on this same battlefield (since again, your goal is to defend this one CC) which, while sounding boring, gives you the homefield advantage, as you know the lay of the land, and where best to defend your objectives would be. you can reinforce yourself with clone packs (not too many, have a cap on the total amount of clones that can be had on one CC at any time.) Should you fail and the CC is destroyed, your clone either respawns where you placed a backup clone (like a jump clone from Eve) or back at the closest faction appropriate merc quarters in high sec. At which point, you must manually travel back to wherever you are needed. This makes keeping your clone's location updated (imagine being cloned into a station that is now owned by your enemies, or back in highsec half a galaxy away from your buddies)
On Attack:
The goal is to capture/destroy the enemy CC. First, have some sort of recon element. Perhaps a Cover Ops ship in Eve can scan the CC to be attacked and give you an overhead view of the battle area, much like the battle map you can pull up in the start menu. This gives Dust side players the ability to plan their attack, and formulate a plan of attack. Once the plan is decided, they gather their clone packs (maybe have a limit, would be too unfair for rich alliances to spam 1,000,000 clones at a single CC, too unfair even for New Eden.) and send them to the planet. Once they land, Eve side and Dust side are alerted to the imminent attack, and have 24 hours or whatever length of time before the attack begins. Both sides can of course have Eve ships in orbit to provide orbitals, and the Eve ships can fight over a planet to see who gets orbital support.
Eve side now has a need of Dust. Without them, their CCs are undefended and open to capture or destruction by hostile forces. Perhaps, some time in the far future, we have a BFG that can target ships in Eve from the ground, making battles over who controls the cannon in addition to the capture/destruction/defense of the CC. The two games become parts of the bigger whole, and CCP's original vision can be fulfilled.
Of course, this happens after we fix the tank spam. Can't rush perfection. |
