I had the impression they would be like the tactical sniper rifle. Shorter range, quick firing, right behind the front line troops. The Matari don't like to hide in the next district like the squids do.

Consider the general role of each of the current weapons. The shotgun is for very short range with very high alpha damage. The Amarr may decide to create a weapon that fills that role but it may not resemble a shotgun at all. Instead, it may be a heavy, slow firing scrambler weapon with only a few rounds in the magazine.
So, yes, I think we'll have a form a parity at some point but I hope they are creative in how those roles are filled.

It's an EVE term. Caldari > calamari > squid.
