Every other pub match I play there's always the kid with Thales that goes 22/0. If I'm solo, and not trying to actually win, I'll sometimes try to find this guy, yet I'm always unsuccessful.
Is there some map exploit people are using, or is there some really clever hiding spot that I don't know about? |

Possibly a redliner if they've got salvage only protogear. Otherwise I'd suggest looking on the tall buildings or the hills around the arena.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

Crap, you're right. The OP is a sniper hunter. Can I take my earlier post back? I meant they're redlining and hanging out in open spaces and by the objectives.

Anywhere high up, if its a Thales usually in their redline. It your hit by a sniper look at where the blood splatter comes up. That will tell you the general direction and then you can get a sniper and look around the hills in that direction. |

Thale's can hit you out from 400m very easily. It's not unusual to manage shots at 600m with the Thale's zoom - this allows Thale's snipers to sit far, far back in the redline. To most hunters, they won't actually render for you.

Just stand still and point to where you think it came from. If you're lucky you will see the sniper trail leading straight to them. It is vital you try your best to see exactly where it goes, for there is no "second chance"

Does the thale's have a higher zoom fidelity than the kaalakiota tac sniper? I'm not really a counter sniper, I just like the science. |

If you want to hunt to down a Thale's user, you'll likely have to expose yourself to the enemy to get close enough. That said, if you find a stationary Thale's user (usually by tracing the angle from which you were killed) you can flank them in a scout suit by running along the borders of the map and sneaking up on them--they really, REALLY don't like being shotgunned at point-blank range.

Much better range, yes. Also, the not rendering part (or the textures of the world geometry near them rendering poorly and obscuring them) is usually the bigger issue with someone sniping that far back.

I hope I don't get kicked out of the Sniper's Guild for this, but here are my tips for hunting snipers and what I do when counter sniping. (Just kidding there is no sniper's guild.)
Okay so finding your target. There are some terrible tricks that snipers use. 1) MCC snipers. You can find them up there, unfortunately they cannot drop nanohives for themselves and after exhausting their ammo the have to come back down and fly a dropship back up. Only extreme KDR snipers do this.
Method of dispatch: Hit them from the ground. You can normally flank to the left or right of the MCC to get a good posistion on them. If you get blue hit markers keep moving to where you're almost perpendicular to the MCCs long axis and you should be able to nail them to the sky.
2) Mountain snipers. Creeping behind hills in the furthest mountains away. Most snipers aren't sniping for sh*t at this distance. A Thales sniper can do well from here so that's where they are likely to be found.
Method of dispatch: You should either find a high point that's at least halfway into the map or countinue flanking towards the redline. They typically set up to where they can't be shot in a good frontal arc but if you get far enough to their side or above you should be able to get a headshot no problem. *A note about getting high. Once you landed a dropship on a high point to take out a sniper. Your first action should be to lay low for a minute. A sniper is watching a tower that a dropship just visited. It's easy pickens. Establishing an uplink is sometimes a problem as blue dots have no idea half the time an will draw unwanted attention.
3) Buildings and cistern Snipers. There are tons of little hideaways. As a countersniper you should always scan across rooftops. Thos big round buildings that look like they have parapets on them (I call them cisterns) are frequently ripe with snipers.
Method of dispatch: You just have to spot them. If someone in your squad knows a direction they're in I always find the best method is an Assualt Dropship. 9 times out of 10 they don't even move. These guys are typically not in the redline and are relying on finding sneaky places to hide. Hives are always a dead giveaway. Good snipers will keep a hive out of view.
4) Ground snipers. I fall in this category. I move around the battlefield taking opportunity kills and countersniping.
Method of dispatch: The easiest way to kill me is to walk up on me and melt my face with an AR. I'm typically hiding behind ground cover and traveling around the outskirts of the map. Trying to get a vantage point on another sniper.
Additional tips: Get a headshot with a rifle that can kill. No pro sniper is gonna get brought down with a militia sniper rifle. Heavy snipers are a pain in the ass, but they typically will let you kill them when they are found because they think they can tank damage long enough to find you. It rarely works out in their favor. If the enely is dumb enough to keep spawning on a tower or someplace where they are easily sniped you have every right to camp the sh*t out of them. Especially other snipers.
Happy Hunting!

Probably shouldn't make things any worse for myself than my earlier post, but I do 2, 3 & 4 of this list. Imo MCC and Redline Snipers should get out of the sniping business. If you want to be safe, get into a tank and actually take part in the match.

Redline sniping with the Thales is the worst part of this game. But it would be great if CCP didn't put all that stripey red blob in the redzone of the map, so you can actually see the coward. I'd love to be able to orbital those guys out of spite, but it just isn't possible. |

Thales have the following:
%+ 4.42 increased compaired to State Specialist Kaalakiota,
% increased 4.25 increased compaired to Kaalakiota,
>Charge rifle. Has 32% reduction conpaired to Kallakiota so you can work the numbers out for zoom fidelity
This being said: Complex Range Modification increasing the draw distance of all tactical information and draw distance of all visual targets in new range extension rate and resulting xistance kilo.
I mean to say, if you fit 1 Complex range amplifiers into the right slot, you see red's futher down the scope but you don't change the binocular of the scope.
Charge can see frames up to 600 Meters,
Thus is a specialist /targetacquisition skill you see further and can effectivly shot it further.
Complex range modification allows a sniper to shoot over the horizon distances.

Whaa? Not many people I shoot at survive a pair of shots to the head and body, so I'm curious how you came to this conclusion? Well it's a standard sniper, but eh.. damage is the same as MLT.
