It's not about spending money for skillpoints, it's about spending money to save time.
You will eventually get enough skill points through regular gameplay and passive sp, but boosters just save the amount of time it takes to get there.
That said I've only ever bought 30 day passive boosters fro 14k each, omega passives for 28k, 7 day actives for 3.5k ea, and 7 day omega actives (for sp events). I have bought 2 regular merc packs at $20 each, and the $100 merc pack (only cost me $30 though...I got $70 for free from sony) that came with 200k aur, two 30 day actives and two 30 day passives. I then spent that 200k on omega boosters and later on regular boosters. The rest of my aurum I spent on vehicles, dropsuits, and weapons while they were all 70% off during the sale right before 1.7, and I currently only have 15 aur left.
So I've spent $75 on this game, so a bit more than a brand new PS3 game, maybe a collector's edition ...but I have spent more than 1000 hours in this game, when usually I judge my money spent by the amount of gameplay it will get me. 1000 hours is more than I have spent in all of the FF games I've played combined, and more than any other MMO. ________________________________________
So grand total...
4 - 30 day passive omega boosters 4 - 30 day active boosters (From merc packs) 8 - 30 day passive boosters (2 from merc packs, 6 bought at 14k ea) 3 - 7 day active omega boosters (to be used on 3x sp events ONLY) 4 - 7 day active boosters (all bought at 3.5k price) -From the merc packs: More than a dozen BPOs in total Hundreds of random modules and items -Hundreds of Misc dropsuits/weapons to try them out before I wasted skill points. -Weapons on sale (On sale for only 7-15 per weapon, 1500 per 100): 200 Carthum ASCRs 50 Imperial Scrambler Rifles 100 Boundless HMGs 50 Freedom Mass Drivers -Vehicles on sale: 20 fitted dropships (1000 aur) -Dropsuit and vehicle pack (On sale for $5...regular $20): 300 crap dropsuits 100 mauler heavies (two highs, one low) 50 fitted LAVs 50 fitted Dropships 50 fitted Madrugars ___________________________________________
I don't know how much that is, or how much I have saved...and I really don't feel like trying to do the math either...but I've done the most I could with $75 in this game, and I feel like it was all worth it. Not to mention I always support things that I like.
However, now that I have over 30 million sp and only have active omega and std active boosters left, I just have to wait for the sp events.

if $20 a month for a leisure activity is a big deal, you just might have the time to grind out 150% of your weekly cap.
Yeah, I take home about $4-600 every month that just sits there in the bank. I don't have a lot of expenses, I live very cheap, and I live in a nice apartment in one of the most cost effective parts of the United States...not to mention working only 3 days a week, 30 hours, for about $21-24/hr depending on tips that day.
I could probably afford to spend more money on this game, but now that I've hit 30 million sp, I'd rather just wait it out.
Omega boosters though...normal cap is 180k, on a 3x week it bumps up to 540k...omega active booster gives you an extra 540k for 18k aurum. The normal 3-day active booster gives you 90k... BUT, 2 well timed 3 day boosters can extend your omega booster to 3 weeks.
So, you're getting 540 + 180 + 180...or 900k sp for 18 + 2.5 + 2.5 (using the sale price for active boosters)...or 23k aur.
900/23 = 39.130...so 39,130 sp per 1k aur 540/18 = 30.0...so 30k sp per 1k aur 90/2.5 = 3.6...so 36k sp per 1k aur 90/3.5 = 25.714...so 25,714 sp per 1k aur (Original example)
