what do you mean by 'Lag Switching' in Dust?
As Dust has dedicated CCP run battle servers. (as opposed to players hosting the games on their system)

How will you prove that a particular person is "Lag Switching", especially with the natural lag issues of the servers. Said person my have a very poor connection and at certain points in game when things like battle take please would naturally slow things down.

Doesn't matter. All a dedicated server means is the lagger/standbyer either needs to know what they're doing a little more or be patient enough to experiment. I've seen a lot extremely fishy stuff recently, more than one would expect of typical server lag and sometimes quite consistently from certain players. Lag switchers or not, though, Dust servers seem to be VERY tolerant of high ping. |

Is this a coincidence?
Iv observed guys not lagging, followed them and watched them lag free, the moment they take a bullet they start teleporting inches just enough so your shots don't register yet every other person in the match is fine.
I'm not saying they most definitely are but I have observed this many times, people conveniently start lagging then stop the moment combat stops, sometimes they appear to fk up and teleport a bit far and walk into a wall when it doesn't quite work for them and they panic, not literally in the wall, just banging into it.
After matches iv asked these people "was you lagging?" And they reply "yeah the whole match"
Yet I observed them barely lagging and followed them and they've gotten better scores than players I know, one, guy went 27/2 in a match where no one was lagging except him and yet he did conveniently well right?
I'm just speculating. Iv followed these guys stealthily and seen that they don't lag unless its convenient for them.

Naming and shaming them won't help because then you run the risk of having a Salem Witch Hunt when people use the "lag switcher" claim as a strawman excuse to get back at someone they have a personal grudge against.
The best thing to do is to leave it up to CCP's security team who have 10 years experience dealing with bot users and busting RMT rings. If there is actual lag switching going on, then those kind of actions tend to leave behind a digital trail of sort for the security team to analyze. But it takes time and the security team is better off creating tracking algorithms rather than following up on endless petitions most of which could just be spam.

Seriously, the security guys at CCP are red hot for this sort of thing and whatever inexperience they might have in FPS exploits will soon not matter. Besides CCp are kings at networking solutions. Just remember that in Eve battles between 4000+ players are not uncommon with Missles, Guns, ECM, Target painting etc etc and all of that is tracked and recorded correctly.
As to lag switching, the simplest solution is just have a much faster connection than them and keep the battle server in your options on Automatic. For the record. I have a 120mb up/ 12mb down connection. I rarely have much lag. Also ensure that it you have it on your router, make the PS3 a static or reserved IP address and put in on the DMZ. Keeps the NAT as open as possible.

I don't know the whole lag situation, but it seems sometimes whenever we are palying against mass corps and try to capture an objective, we go through a major lag and we all get killed (the ones near the objective). I know its not only me because my squad complains about the lag also. But it could be coincidence...maybe.

Because the game is actually running on a series of "Battle nodes" there is no way to use "lag switches" or anything of the sort. Your PS3 is independent from both the server and my PS3 so in order for what you're talking about to be going on someone would have to gain unrestricted access to one of CCP's servers and gain access to everyone in the match's PS3. So they're not "cheating".
Would some groups of players exploit certain issues with the game that cause predicable effects on framerate and connectivity for everyone else in the match? Then they practice being able to play in those conditions and develop new strategies to give them the edge in the screwed up mess that's ruining everyone else's good time? That is most definitely happening.
Good Advice

On some other games players host a game by 'create battle' and their console/PC does the server stuff. They always have virtually zero ping as their gameplay does not go through net.
To my understanding (could be wrong here) the definition Lag Switching means they kill their own internet for few secs:
There's no change in their gameplay as they are always connected to their own server.
But for others they lose connection and their game does what it's designed to handle the situation (most likely keep game running with last known data but all player actions do not happen in reality and when connection resumes teleports and instadeaths etc happen.)
Note that the pulling the plug has to be short enough for server not to kick players out.

What some teams of people do to lag the server is to creat what is called a lag bomb. A lag bomb is a ton of equipment right next to each other. This causes everyone to lag but the people who set the lag bomb lag less. Though this is sometimes unintentional it can be a pain considering that even if the equipment is destroyed the lag continues.

There is no "Lag-Switching" in Dust514, this is not Call of Duty, or any other Player Host games.
Real reason for Lag? Bad internet, bad server quality, and of course three simple letters that explain any issue anyone has with this game: CCP. |
