Its time for me to go over the time honored tradtion of saying "%@#* the objectives lets race!"
LAV racing is the sport of those who like to put their money were their mouth is and race for pink slips (isk) and has been a hilarious way to initiate new guys and test each others LAV driving skills often with hilarious outcomes.
First lets talk about the differences between the LAVs
Shields (onikuma / saga ) - faster acceleration - faster top speed (marginally) - poor handleing - fragile
Build - 1x shield hardener - 1x NOS - either fitting mods or plate/rep in the low (or for those of us that have a stockpile those pre 1.7 torque mods still work! and while you cant buy them you can definatly still fit and use them)
this is the master of the straightaway and givin a long stretch of road it will gain ground on the opposition, but when handed a sharp turn your forced to rapidly slow down if you dont want to end up doing barrel rolls, played right this LAV is super fast and can be a handful in the hands of the oposition.
The hardener is key if you dont want to be destroyed by an armor car, when the vehicles get close those shields are going to start to take damage and given the oportunity an armor car can take out a shield car just by driving next to it so make sure you have that hardener to save you when either making a close pass or when another car starts to do the same to you
The NOS on teh shield LAV is best used on those long straitaways, taking advantage of its higher top speed to gain an edge. Be careful however as those corners are going to be a real handful while your NOS is running so either stick to those long stretches or learn to use the brakes.
for the low slot theres a few options, the repper is going to save you from those bump and grind situations and will make it so you can sustain some damage without going BOOM. The plate is for weighing your car down plain and simple, you lose the top speed advantage in trade for handleing but you keep some of your extra acceleration.
Armor - Lower top speed - lower acceleration - amazing handleing - bump and grinds like a pro
Build - 1x NOS - any combos of rep or hardener that you can fit
This is the king of the dirt track, it takes corners and hits like a champ and you can even get it to drift on uneven ground without doing barrel rolls. Its heavy armor makes it the ultimate bruser able to take and dish those bumps and nudges to throw off other LAVs, this aint no gentlemans race if you can flip out your opponent without causing your own wipeout then DO IT!.
One high slot is dedicated to the NOS wich can be used to power through corners like a boss, drift, or bash. You can also use the nos to deny a shield LAV a clean pass on a straitaway especially if it burnt out its hardener. the lows are almost always going to be taken up by reps and hardeners depending on what you can fit. DO NOT put plates on this thing its heavy enough as it is unless of course your plan is to push and shove your way to the lead, but you kinda have to catch them first.
both cars have their strengths and advantages but are pretty evenly matched on most tracks unless the course you make has a large biased for sharp turns or massive straitaways with very little or gentle turns. keep this in mind and keep backups made of both types to give you that edge.
Now go gamble with your corpmates for a hilarious way to make some isk! |

Fire of Prometheus wrote:Ok, contrary to popular belief, it is possible to drift in the LAVs. Simply tap the breaks before turning, than accelerate, then tap the brakes again, than accelerate out of the turn and voila, you now have drifted and can take turns marginally faster than someone who doesn't drift. Ps. I will win in a race
being able to drift the armor LAVs was mentioned above :P
if the shield LAV trys to drift on uneven ground its going to do some pretty flips, especially with NOS running. the armor car seems to handle it well and has an edge in drifting on everything that isnt flat road :P my favorite trick is to drift with NOS on in my armor LAV to pass a shield LAV, doube points for their being an incline to further slow down the oposition, he either has to risk the NOS on a tight turn or give up the lead.
more oftin then not though your better off taking a corner wide if your not trying to use a narrow drift to pass, you will maintain more acceleration that way and be back up to top speed before a drift would.
the more shallow your turn the more speed you can maintain, drifts are situationally advantagious :P |

Methana Acceleration < Saga Acceleration
I won't make make any judgements on handling quite yet but Saga has torque and means it. It definitely has less trouble getting over hills than a Methana but an un-plated Methana running at max speed is definitely faster than a Saga.
When they return overdrives and nanofiber chassis Saga users are going to have a hayday, and maybe some daring Methana drivers too.
read the top speed discription of the LAVs
saga is faster by a small amount :P
also tested as blackhole and me race neck and neck alot and he definatly has the speed advantage in his saga vs my bump and grind armor jeep.
i have no idea when the top speed was switched so the shield jeep was faster but if your neck and neck with one on a long stretch of road the shield car will pull ahead |
