This might be a silly question, but is the CRG-3 shotgun noticeably better than the standard Dren Shotgun? I'm using the Dren and doing okay with no SP into shotguns. I figure the minor boost in damage will hardly be noticeable as you have to land every shot anyway.
So does a better shotgun actually make a difference, or should I just stick with the Dren? Additionally, does the reduced spread pattern with a higher operation skill help noticeably? |

I honestly have no credentials to answer this seriously. I ran scout for a bit in the past to dabble before the really big complete respec and honestly, never went back into shotguns.
Personally, I find the spread to be a non-issue as I tend to be so close to the person it really doesn't matter in the end. I now have a starter kit with a militia shotty that I take out when I'm getting stomped. Don't care how many suits it takes, taking down even one proto is gravy.
However, again, its not my main fit so I'm certain someone could tell you they've had a noticeable difference in their matches. If I recall correctly, I've heard many a player claim the lvl 5 wasn't really worth it over the lvl 3. I find that seems to be true about a lot of weapons in this game as far as cost vs average performance.

You can get an advance Shotgun to tried if you pay the ISK the most difference in advanced weaponry is how much you pay am using the standar Combat Rifle and i don't have complains cos the advance is like 1.6 point of damage for me most of the time pass unnoticed, if you see that the difference is decent you may trie out remember the cost always speacially in PC matches if you have the ISK to spend try it if not wait to gather enough to make tests is may only advice i have a Shotgun too am sticking for now with that until i try a different one.
You think that everything must be like you want and all is unfair? the answer is simple as Deal with it or GTFO.

Just about all of the good shotgunners I know run the advanced version in pubs. |

I have looked at this thread a couple times before and have not said any thing.
NOW, last night I got my Shot gun to lvl 5 and put on Prof 3. It's amazing!
That 1 lvl higher Prof lvl made all the difference in the world and I would recommend it. LOTS of fun!
4 Shot's and an ADV heavy goes down for a Nap. Got to LOVE it !

so were you just not able to land 4 shots quickly before? Shotgun Prof doesn't increase damage....

Yeah the K5 is probably your best bet, the low fitting cost is really nice considering how Kinetics and Shields are pretty hard to fit. The low ammo count is a pain but I'm sure there'll be hives around and shotgunners aren't exactly known for their survivability anyway ;)
You'd also get to try out the breach shotguns which aren't the most practical but are hella fun :D
The biggest difference probably comes with proficiency despite the 3% ROF bonus looking small on paper.
If you have a 1vs1 with another shotgunner you'll definitely notice if he has proficiency or not.  |
