So many 'it will be fixed in 1.8' posts, is the Forum Regulars getting their hopes up only to be disappointed yet again? Or is 1.8 going to be the magical patch that fixes Dust514?

Honestly, I think it's going to create more problems than solutions. My biggest concern as of late is that, because weapon balancing has been largely neglected, racial parity/suit rebalancing is going to appear skewed. Certain races have some really nice load-outs (Caldari have some pretty effective weaponry) where as others like the Gallente seems to largely be suffering from the effects of previous nerfs (breach/tac), neglect of balance pass (plasma cannon/shotgun) or power creep (assault rifle).
So, think we're likely to see more FotM activity out of 1.8 with the infantry as the disparity in weaponry grows more prominent with suits like the Commandos having a built in damage bonus associated with their weaponry and Sentinels having a reduction in damage to those. That'll last until weaponry has a proper balance pass but, likely won't occur for some time after 1.8 is implemented.
All the while you've got Logi/Assault changes which we have yet to see and equipment changes which until we do see the Assault/Logi changes are largely circumstantial.
I'm all for racial parity but I'm certain that 1.8 is going to come with a basket full of issues. Needless to say, I'm well expecting a lot of frustration to go along with the new car smell.

Respec/refund is a largely different matter. There's no reason to deny a player the ability to run the suit they want to after it's had drastic, over-arching changes or was just recently implemented. That's the sort of thing that causes people to delete their character and start over, just to get frustrated and leave the game for good. That's the last thing we want.
Respects and Refunds are fine in this instance. FotM shouldn't even be a concern (that's the goal) because there simply won't be a "FotM" if balancing is done correctly.

Probably a bit of both!
I know my hopes are high and yes I'm expecting to be disappointed, but if they tweak some of the core mechanics that have been introduced in the past (AA, TTK etc.) then it could go either way.
I do "love" the game, but I'm with many here that are getting tired of smashing their head against a brick wall.

I got this awful feeling that the pre-patch jitters is feeling all to similair to previous 'big patches', in a way I am glad that I am not the only one that is feeling some unease about it.
But yeah I love the game, otherwise I wouldn't have been playing it for so long, I just think that the balance has been ******* ****** and probably will continue to be ******* ****** for some time.

Same as all the other patches basically. Everyone (including me) will be happy when it's released. We will play with the new guns/dropsuits. We will thank CCP for all their hard work.
Then after 1-2 weeks, we will get frustrated again and start complaining about things. The same problems will persist, new problems may come up.
Sound about right?

Sure there will be FOTM. It will be 'the new thing'. Some will play it to try it and see if they like it, some will try it to learn it's strengths and weaknesses to account for them in thier playstyle and tactics.

I highly doubt this will be the patch that magically fixes Dust514. With the addition of all the new racial suits as well as the Assault/Logistic "rebalance" seems things might be worse off for a while. As we all know CCP lacks the knowledge of balance.
Think we'll be seeing a lot of new FOTM builds in 1.8. Whether it's the new heavies or scouts, it's bound to happen. A lot of the stats on the new suits seem a little out of whack to me. For example a Caldari Scout will be able to run nearly as much shield as my Caldari Assault with a much higher shield regen ratio and quite a bit more speed. Making it a far better shield tanker than any of the other Caldari classes, which is what Caldari is meant to do. Not to mention two equipment slots. Seems it may out class the Assault variant on nearly all levels. The new racial/suit bonuses given to assaults may play a huge role in whether or not a scout suit would be a better slayer than an assault but at this point only time will tell.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the new suits in the battlefield. I'm not looking forward to all the QQ and constant buffing and nerfing coming in the near future. I really wish CCP would balance things better right out of the gate instead of using us all as test bunnies for months before things hit somewhat of a balanced level, then throwing more nerfs and buffs at us as a small majority QQ on the forums.
Time will tell, but I'm definitely not holding my breath for this one. |

I've managed to get to the point pleasant point where I have no hopes/fear either way for any given update, Not that I have no hopes for the game don't get those confused.
If you've got zero expectations the good seems much better and even the complete garbage is a good deal less unpalatable.

1.8 will not fix dust. No patch or update will. For a couple of reasons. The big one is that everybody has a different idea of what needs fixing and what needs to be done to fix it. We can all agreeabout the basic mechanics that need to be sorted out, like hit detection for example, but when it comes down to the gear, everyone has their own viewpoint. To one person, a gun might be overpowered and need to have the damage or rof lowered. To another person it's underpowered or fires too slowly.
The other reason it will never be 'fixed' is CCP will keep adding new things to the game for as long as it's played. Be they mechanics or items. And those things will need the game to be balanced again so they'll tweak and tuck which will bring up new, unanticipated problems.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

1.8 will be another incremental step towards what this game should have been on release(or in closed beta if you want to set the bar a bit higher).
No magic, but it will be a big step towards full racial lineups, and a rational and plausible(hence immersive) approach to suit bonusing, and sidearms are approaching racial parity(but where's the Flaylok love?). It will see the scout, heavies and commando return to or achieve viability. We will be adding new functionality in terms of the Cloak, and scanning will be refined to make it considerably more tactical as a game mechanic.
My biggest hopes for 1.8 are a noticeable refinement in core mechanics and stability, full militia lineups of all gear and a matchmaker revised to use historical end-of-match rankings as it's primary predictive variable. Also want to see real improvements in the quality and enjoyability of the NPE, tank spam addressed(but not through ISK), and TACNET/passive scanning made consistent and reliable.
In terms of calibrating expectaions, expecting to get maybe 10% of what i'm hoping for.
I support SP rollover.

all my SP is invested into those 2 specific playstyles and with 1.8 changes I wont be able to utilize it till I grind my way back. I will definately quit without a refund of all my SP and I am sure I am not the only one in this boat. |
