I think it was at the back end of June 2012 Snagman 313 came into being. I had been offshore far too long and things at home had to take priority again, so I also needed a new outlet and my brother had been keeping me up to date on this new then game Dust 514.
Honestly when I first started I didn't know what I was getting into, I had some COD experience but not much as most of my gaming was fairly casual for the last 10 years or so mostly Command and Conquer series and a few other titles in between.
I lacked the required motor skills to be a true run and gun player so began looking to the heavy to help supplement my firepower until I was a better player. After building up SP and speccing into some bits and pieces I found my calling, the Forge Gun this was right around the time NPC corp battles where being lined up.
I cut my teeth in some of the most insanely OP matches you can believe against some of the nicest opponents I've had the pleasure to meet. Sir Meode and myself would duel constantly and few would interfere in our little gentleman's game, there just seemed to be a bit more heart and soul back then.
Then came the New Eden Missile Tank crisis, we had seen OP weapons come and go by then but nothing on this scale and the current issues with Tanks pale in comparison to this incident. I was suddenly in demand my growing skills in AV were finally worth something to some people and it was around this time I think that player corps where created.
I was reluctant to join a corp due to my lacking experience in FPS games but back then you would run into the same people in a match more often and that's how I met a player called General Shots. It wasn't some amazing feat where I had saved his ass from a Missile tank just that he happened to be under fire from it when I unleashed an old school Forge round into it's weak spot at point blank range. He ended up recruiting me to his corp Project 9 after hounding me about it for a while.
I stayed with Project 9 until it disbanded after a particular update and a following incident. I had a great time with them there were some great players and it was my first real foray into the MMO side of the game. During the timeframe I was with Project 9 I met a couple of other players who tried to recruit me over to their own corps one however stood out above the rest and has become my current CEO and I would say good friend. I first met Stine Control he was running his Warclone character and we hit it off fairly well, he proposed an alliance with my then current corp Project 9 and his own corp Carbon 7 but if memory serves this fell through. We stayed in touch and as so often happened back then would end up on the same team so kept fighting together.
After the fateful update and SP reset Project 9 was no more and I found myself running solo honing my skills against the same HAV pilots I had been combatting for Project 9, but now I had no infantry support and the days of gentlemanly duels had ended as had the days of the HMG since the Sharpshooter skill had been removed. I needed a new Corp if I was to survive, so fate intervened and I bumped into Stine Control, I asked to join up and I've been with Carbon 7 ever since. I've met new players that have stayed with us and many who have moved on, the corp has grown a lot and has some of the best players I know.
I fought in the Battle for Caldari prime event with my corp mates which still goes down as one of Dusts great moments for me. I have seen the rise and fall of so many weapons and classes along with the evolution of Dust from what was a genuine Beta to the constantly evolving product we see now. I have had to adapt and change so much from when I started playing this game and it will be interesting to look back in another year or so and see where we are.
Grit my teeth, set my feet, Forge gun at the ready and my aim steady, Let's do this!!!
