Dust is coming along great I'm not quite sure what you're doing with your Laser Rifle but I have only level one operation and absolutely MELT faces within its optimal still. You must be doing something wrong. It works exactly the same as laser weaponry works in Eve. Optimal is super far, does more damage over time, complete garbage in CQC. Works as intended if you ask me. Its a LONG range weapon that works very well at LONG ranges.
I'm very interested in what your idea would be to put in place of the red line if it were to be removed. The red line is there for a reason, to give a safe place to spawn if your team is being absolutely wrecked. You are just as capable of shooting out of your red line at enemies as they are at shooting you. I don't see the big problem here. Red line snipers? Cool, go ahead and get in a good spot and pop them in the face. Red line rail tanks? Cool, use a militia tank and get free ISKies and WP for blowing them up. Sure its a very ANNOYING issue but definitely not something that impacts the game so greatly that everything needs to be dropped and a red line rework needs to be put into place. Rendering, lag, game freezes/crashes/fatal errors, finished content, etc. all seem like more prominent problems than a few annoying KDR padders sitting in their red line. |

Every weapon had a certain niche that could be relentlessly powerful if used correctly. Granted there wasn't a whole lot of choice on weaponry in Counter-Strike, which is probably why it was easy to balance. I think a lot of people QQ in many FPS games because they pick a weapon they like and use it in the wrong way. Just like the OP about laser rifles. He's probably one of those guys that brings it into CQC and expects it to do mass mounts of damage.
I think most weapons in Dust are pretty well balanced at this point if used in their proper niche. Too many players are used to CoD/BF and other various twitch shooters where weapons don't have optimal ranges. I see far too many people shooting enemies outside of their weapons optimal range in Dust. For example, if you're using a Combat Rifle don't engage a Rail Rifle user at 60 meters. More common sense, less QQ. |

If you look in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, next to your EHP HUD, there is Weapon Efficiency stats, as well as how far away the target is, that pop up when you aim at someone. Those can be used to figure out whether or not an enemy is within your optimal. I use them all the time. If its below 60% efficient I won't engage a target. |
