+ Variants Long people have said that variants should be a weaker rendition of the original. Few others such as myself have always thought they should be able to be rather competitive. But I think a different route could result in a much more interesting and agreeable method. First you take the range of the variant and lower it/raise it to be around the area of the base rifle. So a Tactical Assault Rifle would have more range than an assault rifle but a tactical rail rifle would have less range than a Rail rifle. Next you make it so that the Tactical variant has the highest damage per clip of its class, (so TAR would have better damage per clip than AR) and then you include the function of the variant so the TAR is semi-automatic but since it has less fitting requirements then the actual scrambler rifle there is no Charge feature. The Tactical variants would have the 2 slowest RoF of their class (so the breach AR would be slower than the TAR and the TAR slower then the burst AR, etc.). You apply that to all weapons and you end up with this:
- Rail Rifle - Highest Range, Lowest DPS
- Tactical Rail Rifle - Second Highest Range, Second Lowest DPS
- Breach Scrambler Rifle - Second Highest Range, Second Lowest DPS
- Scrambler Rifle - Third Highest Range, Third Lowest DPS
- Burst Rail Rifle - Third Highest Range, Third Lowest DPS
- Breach Combat Rifle - Third Highest Range, Third Lowest DPS
- Burst Scrambler Rifle - Fourth Highest/lowest Range, Fourth Lowest/Highest DPS
- Tactical Combat Rifle - Fourth highest/lowest Range, Fourth Lowest/Highest DPS
- Breach Assault Rifle - Fourth highest/lowest Range, Fourth Lowest/Highest DPS
- Assault Rail Rifle - Fourth Highest Range, Fourth Lowest DPS
- Tactical Assault Rifle - Third Lowest Range, Third Highest DPS
- Combat Rifle - Third Lowest Range, Third Highest DPS
- Assault Scrambler Rifle - Third Lowest Range, Third Highest DPS
- Assault Combat Rifle - Second Lowest Range, Second Highest DPS
- Burst Assault Rifle - Second Lowest Range, Second Highest DPS
- Assault Rifle - Lowest Range, Highest DPS
Let's assign numerical Ranges to the base weapons AR=1 , CR=2 , SR=3 , RR=4 These are essentially the rank of ranges. Now the variants are basically a combination of two weapons. So you take the range values of those two weapons and the variant(s) are the average of the two. Let's say you want to know the range of Assault Scrambler Rifle. (3 + 1)/2 = 2. Referencing the rank values, that puts the Assault Scrambler Rifle with the same range as a combat rifle, as well as the Tactical Assault Rifle (because it's just another combination of the same two weapons). The same relation can be applied to DPS given my range versus dps suggestion, where AR=4 , CR=3 , SR=2 , RR=1 I am totally open to some constructive criticism.

Please, tho, add how much Damage per individual shot/burst one should expect from these weapon variants. Your last couple of posts have been kind of mirroring my own line of thoughts! If I post numbers people get butthurt and the idea goes down the hole. I'm trying to keep this as general and non-specific. If I specified numbers, which I don't want to do anyway let CCP bake the cake, people will try in find flaws in the numbers and thus bypass the concept.

In your last related post you were saying that the rail rifle should have the highest per-shot damage but the lowest DPS which only make sense if its RoF is very low. Even lower than it is now low. In a sense
Take this for example: AScR and TAR should have the same DPS and range. However the Assault Scrambler Rifle should function like the Assault rifle in terms of light damage higher RoF. The TAR would have less damage than a Scrambler Rifle higher RoF, but less RoF than an AScR. You see what I'm getting at?
The AScR would have the same range and same DPS as a TAR but the AScR is trying to mimic the AR so it's goal is to achieve high RoF low damage. While the TAR is trying to achieve a higher damage with a slower RoF.
I made a different thread for variations because damage per shot and RoF should certainly be closely grouped (but differing) amongst the same variation. So all breach weapons will have high damage, high range, slow RoF. However they will follow the conventions above mentioned, so the TAR having the lowest range of the tacticals will be granted highest RoF still.
So amongst a certain class of variant (tactical), yes, the DPS is controlled by RoF.However two weapons with the same DPS and Range of different variations will not have the same damage per shot or RoF (necessarily).
