This has been a topic for some time, but we never knew when racial parity would arrive so the discussion never went far. But now that each race will have a light, medium, and heavy frame as well as their own frontline rifle as well as sidearm, we really should see more diverse starter fits that cover all frame sizes and explore more weapons than simply the AR, scrambler pistol, and SMG.

I'd love to see a more diverse range of roles represented as well, maybe based on character race and bloodline? Would mean there is a point to your choice.
So everyone gets a starter medium, heavy and light suit for their race, but the fit of the suit is determined by the bloodline. |

Starter fits should now be one of each:
- Medium frame assault (racial rifle/sidearms, racial tanking profile) - Medium frame logistics (repair tool, nanite injector, uplink) - Heavy frame (BFG!) - Light frame scout/recon
Optional could also be medium frame Anti-armor.

Also, as far as the Frontline starter fits go (and probably the light frame starter fits as well), Amarr should have scrambler rifle and scrambler pistol, Minmatar should have combat rifle and flaylock pistol, Caldari should have rail rifle and bolt pistol, and Gallente should have assault rifle and ion pistol. All of which will be available next update.

You can't delete them. You can remove them from your fitting list, but you still have them. Just go to "Create new fitting" and look for your starter fit in your list of dropsuits, it is still there. Then select it and all the free stuff is still there as well.

I must have been editing my post while you were replying. It doesn't have to be perfect (what is in Dust), but just something to give beginners an introduction to the different infantry classes. Example: the logi tool choice was so that players can get a good selection of equipment to introduce them to the logistics role.
It always annoyed me that all of the starter fits were based on medium frames.

I made a post about this awhile back...
More specifically, it's about making a MLT variant of the Assault Scrambler rifle. The template with MLT weapons is they have higher fitting. If you put a STD Scrambler on a MLT Amarr Suit with no other skills (and the equipment slot empty still) it hits cap of the suit's PG. So, you can't raise the PG on the fitting of a STD Scrambler and still have it fit the suit - it costs 6 more PG than the MLT Plasma Rifle.
So, there's some rearranging necessary even if they don't like my proposed rifle.
There's theoretical sets of:
Scrambler Rifle Scrambler Pistol
Rail Rifle Bolt Pistol/Magsec
Combat Rifle Flaylock/SMG
Plasma Rifle Ion Pistol
...For assaults, but there is still a lack of a racial AV option for each race, or sniper rifle for that matter. I look at the AV issue here. As it stands now, two races have more sidearm options as well. It's enough to go forward though I think. A greater variety in starters should help people branch out more.

I agree with that. I kinda had in mind being a Deteis cause it fit more a leadership role, something a medium suit would suit better.
Could be something like this:
Caldari Civire - Heavy Main starter fit armour Deteis - Medium Main starter fit armour Achura - Light Main starter fight armour |

I think basing starter fits on blood-line is a mistake. Bloodline is purely for RP purposes, and not part of what should determine your skills.
Furthermore, I believe the goal of starter fits would be missed if there were too many unique starter fits that were only available to race A and Bloodline X. Instead, I think each race should get a racial frontline dropsuit, and the other dropsuits as is.
Then, in the market, allow players to buy, for minimal isk (think ~2-4k ISK each) prefit militia dropsuits that each showcase certain roles, and racial variations on said roles. For example, a Gallente Shotgun scout, a minmatar hack-scout, Caldari knifer, minmatar grenadier (Massdriver equpied), and countless more.
The reasoning behind this is that starter fits should:
1) Encourage Diversity: new players need to be aware of the depth of fittings, and the number of options open to them. Players coming from other games may not understand the fitting system of DUST from the get go, and having "easy-fits" that can give them idea of proper fitting combinations will allow them to better grasp the mechanics.
2) Provide SP-investment free experimentation: New players should not be punished for trying to find their niche (aside from dying, that's fine) in the form of SP sinks to simply experiment. With a list of fittings for each weapon / playstyle / race to choose from the player will have plenty of options.
3) Naturally encourage a player to want to delve deeper: The idea of the starter fits should be such that players can get a feel for the weapon while also naturally bringing up the thought of "this is nice... but I could make it better." Players should feel motivated to specalize into a favored suit, with a core of skills. |

To my above post, I would go further by saying that to the end of point 3, there should be a "step-up" version of starter fits that are "all basic" versions of a starter fit. This would likely, allow room for an equipment item to be placed (which would be empty, for most starter fits).
If players are made aware of this "starter ++" fit then they will have a natural and straight forward first goal for SP investment into a certain specialization. The skills (for most suits) would be relatively low in SP quantities, and would give a player who chose to follow these fits a easy, and noticeable improvement on the battlefield, helping to show the impact of skills.
Continuing on the ideas of starter fits the equipment slot (in most variants) would be empty, and have enough extra CPU / PG to allow the fitting of an equipment slot. If this fact was pointed out to new players, they would have a straight forward and natural progression to fitting out a suit, as well as being able to see the additional benefit of having equipment to a favored suit.
On the note of guiding players to both of these options:
1) For starter fits add in a "newbie" mission in the beginning that guides a player to this part of the market. (Likely under militia fits) Have this give a reward roughly equal to buying 10 suits.
2) After a new player has gotten 1k WP introduce a new trigger introducing them to the "starter ++" fits. Giving them a reward roughly equal to buying 10 suits.

No more starter fits please, why do you guys keep asking for more free suit that we don't need, why are you guys trying to make pub Isk pay out less, why keep supporting the cheap fit player that QQ about the proto pub stomping.

I doubt it. I've seen the charts about the new weapons coming, and none of them say militia. Just standard and Aurum issue. |

What we have is good, we need no more. We're not saying new starter fits, we're saying replace the current starter fits with more appropriate and diverse starter fits. This would help the NPE (New Player Experience) by giving new players a better representation of all the possibilities in Dust.
