Something to add:
1.) Avoid the use of Deus ex machina; it is generally considered to be both undesirable and often implies a lack of creativity on the part of the author. It can also break the suspension of disbelief.
2.) If a character uses an item such as, say, a coffee spoon; it must have been established that either they brought this item with them into the scenario, or it was part of the environment they are in (exceptions to the latter can be made in some cases).
In short: Your character cannot magically summon coffee spoons (or any other item for that matter) out of thin air.
2.) Subsection b) Also, magic doesn't exist in New Eden; and I have seen people say otherwise:
Sir Ravenwing wrote:If you are to get rid of the engraving you may as well ask me to and I'm not born of gallente blood *sighs* raven mummers something and calmly erases the engravings Do not think for a minute that I do not know what you are doing galm Raven sits and starts saying something in a strange language with his eyes closed And receiving those daggers is considered an honor galm as so with my sword which I will keep May peace be of this place, and it be sheilded from mindless bloodshed oh you wasn't supposed to hear that
This rule further enforces the fact that one cannot magically summon coffee spoons.
3.) Avoid "Metagaming"; which (in the context of RP) is defined as "Using information in your possession that your character does not in order to affect the outcome of a situation; such as knowing how to stir coffee with a spoon; despite your character not even knowing what coffee is.
He he he... Coffee spoons

That's always a way to get me to openly scorn you and oppose you in all things.
Also, on that general theme; remember this:
Your uncle is not the leader of the Black Eagles, you are not best friends with the Amarr empress, and you most likely don't personally know any of the senior staff in the Gallente fleet.
You don't have a brother who served for 10 years as the personal bodyguard of the Caldari boardroom and somehow has contacts in the Jove empire.
In short; the people you know can only be so much.

Some Wikipedia links to various relevant things: Deus ex machina - Very unlikely thing that instantly solves all your problems.
Red Herring - Designed to distract the reader from the main plot, or to lead them to false conclusions.
Chekhov's Gun - A seemingly unimportant something (Such as a coffee spoon or some random fact) that, although insignificant at the time (it may only be briefly mentioned); will become a major plot device later.
Unreliable Narrator - When the story teller deliberately misleads the reader by hiding facts, introducing bias, and perhaps even lying to the reader. Often in larger woks, the narrator may contradict themselves.
And while I'm here; have a role-play guide.
