Just wanted to get people's thoughts on the continuation of the Minmatar scout bonus to Nova Knives (+5% damage per level) for 1.8.
I know there are alot of Nova Knife specialists who love this, and use the Mini Scout exclusively because of it, but I'm of the opinion that it limits the flexibility of the class.
A specific bonus into a single weapon limits the usability of the bonus to very specific uses and fits. As it stands the current bonus means that, even if other racial variant melee weapons are released, the Mini scout will effectively be restricted to the one weapon. And as the scout is the only class that regularly makes use of melee weapons, with the Mini scout featuring as the melee specialist of choice, this limits the usability of racial melee weapons in general.
I would instead propose a blanket bonus for the Mini scout instead, to sidearms.
A bonus of +2% damage/level to sidearms means that Nova Knives still receive an increase, while also opening up fits to include other sidearms.

I'd be comfortable with that if it remained as a +5%/level bonus. That said, you still end up with no reason to run melee on any other suit, which defeats the purpose of introducing racial melee types. |

Thoughts? You require another bonus on top of your Hacking bonus? Is there no end to your greed? What of the Amarr scout bonus? That's worth discussing. Suggesting you need more from a great pair of bonuses is just acting damn entitled,
Thanks for the input. I agree that the Amarr bonus as it stands is lacklustre and is worth discussing. Maybe you could start an Amarr bonus thread to facilitate said discussion, instead of posting your concerns underneath a Minmatar scout thread and 'just acting damn entitled' and demanding we talk about it?
The hacking bonus, like Nova Knives, is only useful in specific instances (not ambush, for instance). Bonuses under consideration for the Gal, Cal and Amarr are more generally useful, in that they will be usable in the majority of situations (affecting profile, scanning, or mobility). And once again, yes, I'm aware of the concerns with the values of the Amarr bonus, but the bonus concept itself is reasonably solid.
I'm not 'asking for more', I'm suggesting an alternative. I'm generally happy with the Minmatar bonus, and I'm putting forward an option that I think would make the suit viable across a range of playstyles. Feel free to agree or disagree as you like. |

I've played them from the start, and I only play Minmatar. I personally find the bonus to a specific weapon to be limiting. Of my 4 regular fitouts, only 1 uses knives.
I do like the hacking bonus, as I spend alot of time behind enemy lines, so I'm happy that there is a bonus that is generally useful for my playstyle.
Like I said, I understand alot of scouts are passionate about their knives, and I'm quite happy with the current bonuses. Just putting out an idea on increasing the versatility of the suit, and to allow room for the additional melee weapons when (if) they get released. |
