You are forgetting that 1.7 was an update that dismantled the vehicle system to create an entirely new approach to balance. Yes, they are overpowered. But they aren't broken, even if they are literally immune to non-proto swarmers. Before that they were broken - Insane prices, paper thin armor and unlimited ammo. The new limited clip sizes, stronger armor and cheaper prices even them out far more. Not perfect, but the next balance pass should fix the situation.
Balance? CCP also had more than 3 months to get it right and on day one tanks were ramping off of hills because nitrous boosters were giving 100% boost. Yes, I concede, in 1.7 they got the concept right, but the concept could've been written on a bar napkin to get right (tanks should be effective in waves). The problem, especially with this community, is that on launch day when there are such obvious, overt, glaring, STUPIDFUCK mistakes, that we tend to lose faith in a developer. All it takes is literally 1 single test drive of the patch build to discover there's a decimal out of place. CCP doesn't do this, they just throw a bunch of **** together at the very last second and launch it, using us as its beta testers.
Yes, the approach is better, but honestly we are no closer to "balance" than we were with 1.6. CCP has no idea what direction they are taking this game, and when you see that they are buffing tanks and nerfing AV you get the pendulum swing to the other extreme.
Personally I'm wary for 1.8, they are talking about nerfing ALL weapon damage and damage mods, while at the same time increasing eHP and increasing TTK. So all the TTK QQ will have gone from "Guys when we cried TTK was too low and were just getting used to it, we only wanted a SLIGHT increase" to CCP swinging TTK wildly in the other direction where heavies will not drop and anything less than an HMG/Shotgun/sniper rifle/mass driver/LR is going to be a pea shooter. |
