AA doesn't exist at all anymore, the aim assist was drastically turned down a patch or 2 after implementation, it used to drag your aim towards the target but since the tone down i haven't noticed a single drag towards target even once. Even with the laser rifle, which was king of aim assist, and would drag like crazy, it now doesn't drag at all.
What WAS introduced after AA was implemented, was hit detection improvements. These improvements meant all control schemes, controller, kb/m, and PS move all now have the ability to have registering hits despite being VERY SLIGHTLY off target. If you played in chromosone you'd remember the AR back then had a big front sight that inhibited aiming compared to the current tiny spike as a front sight we have now, yet despite the terribad sights, if you aimed over the enemy, it would hit them anyways, even though you sometimes felt like you weren't EXACTLY centered, but couldn't tell because of the bigass front sight. This was due to much better "hit detection" (not the real defenition of hit detection but CCP acts as if it is.)
So, we have a little of this bullet magnetism hit detection now that we had alot of in chromosone, and aim assist was in the game and beast but was took out or toned down to uselessness without being in patch notes, as a result of this, 90% of the playerbase still blames aim assist which is now irrelevant, whilst forgetting about the "hit detection" improvements, which lower TTK for most weapons.
As for you OP, the reason you lose is because you had bad aim during those fire-fights while your enemy didn't. If you're even a tiny bit off you won't hit them, even with "hit detection" that doesn't change much. This happens ALL THE TIME in dust, in a 1v1, one guy gets lucky and his aim falls on target initially as he aims, thereby hitting almost every shot, his opponents aim falls SLIGHTLY off, thereby missing almost every shot. Mainly due to our very accurate guns really
You can remedy this by hipfiring as well, as the hipfiring is much easier to adjust during full auto and is less accurate, so its easier to hit consistently. Thats why hipfire feels like most other games yet our aiming down sights feels so different, as its quite literally HIT OR MISS, do or die.
That's "MR." Pothead to you.
