Now. I know that this feature is still far from being added but it's nice to talk about things.
Now. I have been thinking. The 2 modes for PvE we will be getting the moment it comes will be:
-Survival= Surviving against waves of incoming drones. Now we don't know if it will have a limit on to how many waves there can be or the game mode will end once all clones have been used up. But this one seems the most generic.
-Infestation= Going around the entire district looking out for drone hives and destroying them. I think this one will be the most played one because not only the entire district will be open for everyone to explore but also alot of Dropship pilots will love this game mode because they have no restriction on where to fly except or the ceiling.
But as time goes by this modes will become old and stale. Just like The current Skirmish is.
So the other day while watching this trailer something came to me. Why not make mission based PvE mode?
As time goes by this mission type PvE can replace normal PvP pub matches and making PvP only for Factional Warfare and Planetary Conquest. But for this mode to not become stale CCP will need to make a random mission generator and a very mart and advanced AI that functions as players.
Some missions can be like "Escort this convoy to safety. The *insert opposing NPC Corp merc's AI* is trying to destroy it. Or take over missions or rescue missions. But the AI will need to be advanced and the missions randomly generated. This will also make more sense to the entire "Accepting contracts" thing. The menu for this will work like:
-Show available contracts to accept on a scroll menu -Show how many mercs have choose the contract -Contract stating mission details and how many clones they will have to waste -Near ISK payout when the mission is finished.
You can choose how you want to play this missions. You can use your vehicles or go full-on infantry. But this is were the advanced AI will come in. The moment they sense that a vehicle has been called they will switch to their AV fits and try to take your vehicle down. Not to mention that the AI can also call down their vehicle to make your mission more harder
How missions should be planned out and delivered is entirely up to CCP
I don't know. But for me this idea seems better then having 2 game PvE game modes that will go stale and predictable within a few weeks or for the first 3 months.
I am not saying that this little idea of mine should be implemented ASAP but it'd be really cool if CCP did implement this idea for some time later in the future of the game. Leaving PvP only for FW and PC while normal pub matches are PvE.
If you guys have any ideas on how to improve my idea please speak up and if you don't agree well I understand |

Our blog has been very vocal about the fact that PVE is critical to this game. its needed in the tutorial as well as to provide a break from PVP.
Those convoy missions would be very good. we would also like to see solo or small group assassin contracts, salvage, bodyguard (opposite of assassin, protect the VIP) gladiator arena fights vs drones, escorting VIPs from a starting part of the map to one of 3 extract points safely and scout missions that could yield info about PC districts. http://tinyurl.com/k8ravsg |

snip I've dreamed about that. Deploying from a small Firebase using Dropships and LAVs fitted with scanners searching vast areas. Locating either groups of Rogue Drone or Nanite Generators creating more. Having to balance force movements since the ever spawning Rogue Groups keep trying to destroy the Firebase. The destruction of which means mission failure and ISK loss since we paid for every CRU, SD, and Turret Installation. Every structure laid out by a Force Commander who can OMS more.
To be honest I'll be happy when Rogue Drone anything is added to the game.

Assassination missions would be cool but for assassination missions to make sense we would need to eliminate an important commander or officer. Now I don't know if this will affect lore wise but it's just my guess. |

Yeah. Imagine deploying to do the mission while hearing TACNET giving you the mission's orders and details once in combat. It adds an immersion feel.

Well for Pve maps i thinks CCP should have a good look at the pve maps of world of darkness (you know there other game). Those maps are small scale city based maps. Don't get me wrong the large maps we have now are fun, but there needs to be diversity. I can't imagin every map beeing like them, there needs to be city maps or downed ships/stations/ruins. Especially when fighting drones, so that you need to actively search for them. As for the map in the trailer, i've been wanting to play that map since closed beta and it never came. If ccp makes these trailers, atleast incorporate these maps into the game. I just hope that one day we get to play that map.
I think once they got there basics done, we might be able to also see some diversity in the type of drones. Sancha's nation for instance are kinda half zombie like, while Guristas, Angel cartel, Serpentis are pirates, Sleepers are Jovian style npc's, while the thukkers, bloodraiders, mordu's legion are more mercenary style npc's. Offcourse after those factions, one could introduce the ancients drones/npc, who's tech sometimes can be found in complexes. Like the Takmahl who where amerian heretics with loads of cybernetics, Also most likely to survive the years, due to there half cyborg nature. The Yang jung and Talocan are more then likely extinct, but perhaps generational evolution of these races might still exist. the Talocan (caldari style) where masters in Spatial Manipulation, so just imagine a tank or trooper teleporting next to you, stuff like that. While the Yang jung (gallente style) where masters in gravitronic technology and force field tech, so hover tanks and hard to destroy force fields. The posibillity's are endless. So i hope that in the long run we will see most, if not all of these factions come to life.
But as nice as it all sounds we need to see some basic pve first very, very soon, before it all gets to boring. |

See, the thing that always got me about the planned 'survival' missions, is that you go in knowing you are eventually going to die. Now while I know that can be a fun game-mode from time to time just to test yourself, I never understood why that was the only planned mode to be released, (or at least that's the only one I've ever heard a dev talk about.)
Why not do it like EVE and have drone clearing missions of varying difficulty.
Lv1 through Lv5 missions where the higher you go, the harder it gets and the more pay you receive where the lower levels can be soloed but don't pay terribly well and the higher ones will take organized teams to clear while being mildly lucrative.

Agreed. I think the only reason PVE isn't out yet is because it HAS to still be worked on. If CCP shelved PVE, there is no hope for this game's sense of direction. PVE will put every other shooter out of their misery; once people understand Dust 514's system, it's easy from there on.

+1 definitely a great idea! Nice concepts on the subject too. If corp directors could take on jobs, and assign mercs to areas of interest holding the particular type of salvage the corp is interested in. The mission could call for AV equipment as the drones have heavy armor support, or it could call for heavy armor support and the director could assign tankers to the burn zone! I like the idea, and ccp, in my humble opinion, should put more thought, time, and effort into PVE than they do some dumb cloak. Scouts are hard enough to spot as it is. This would really involve, and put into action, the dropship, HAV, and LAV roles into more than just spam in ambush matches. Maybe if we all chanted ccp it would happen sooner than later ::)

I completely agree with you my friend. But like I (and you) said. We need some basic PvE testing. So I won't having them 2 drone modes as long as they are not the only PvE mode we will see in the game for years to come. |

@Buwaro - actually anyone semi-important would do. luckily EVE has so many NPCs that contracts taken out on someone high in Sperpentis, Ishukone or even a mission to assassinate Tibus Heth himself. I would imagine it would be super difficult.
on the flipside bodyguard missions to protect NPCs would be cool too. Especially if both sides of the mission were taken by player corps and one was defending while the other was the assassin. |

Level 1-5 missions, like in EVE.
Level 1(Very Easy, balanced for use with MLT/STD gear): Drone Extermination.
Light Drones are easy to destroy(~100HP, mostly armor), and don't do much damage, but move a surprising speeds. They use small blasters. There will be a lot of these drones, and they attack as a swarm. +1000 ISK for kill.
Medium Drones are fairly common, use weapons that resemble ours in function, can take a few hits (~450HP, mostly armor), and regenerate their armor very quickly(15 HP/s). Their attack strategies are highly predictable, and wont provide too much of a challenge so long as they are taken out before they can get close. +2500 ISK for kill.
Heavy Drones are few, but they provide a challenge to combat. They use weapons that resemble HAV turrets in function, and can take massive amounts of damage (~3000HP, ALL armor). They move very slow, and cause massive damage to anyone that gets near them. +15000 ISK for kill.
Logistics Drones are small, hard to hit because of their speed, and 2-3 of them always accompany a Heavy Drone, but only take 1 shot to destroy. Their only purpose is to repair the Heavy Drone(+30 HP/s per drone), so taking these out first will greatly increase your chances of success. +2000 ISK for kill.
The objective of this game type is to completely wipe out a drone infestation. You will be paid according to how many drones you destroy, and whether or not you complete the objective. You will have a team of up to 6 mercenaries, and 36 reserve clones for your team to use. Payout: 150-400K ISK.
Level 2 (Easy, balanced for use with STD level gear): Pirate Raid
You only get 1 clone, the objective is to defend a ship that is being boarded by pirates from getting taken over. There are 30 pirates, all using random MLT/STD gear. Your team consists of up to 6 mercenaries. Killing more pirates increases payout(+5000 ISK per kill), you must not lose, or you don't get paid. Payout: 300-700K ISK.
Level 3 (Average, balanced for use with ADV level gear): Pirate Attack
You only get 1 clone. The objective is to clear out a pirate base by either killing all the pirates (60 pirates) or destroying their Life-Support. To destroy the life support, you must capture 3 points spread throughout the base to open a door. Being the core is the life support room, simply destroy the devices inside to win. Your team consists of 4-12 mercenaries. You get paid 1,000,000 ISK upon completion, but if you don't complete the objective, you get 5000 ISK for every kill you perform.
Level 4 (Hard, balnved for use with ADV/PRO level gear): Sansha Incursion
Light Slaves: These use high Damage (x2 damage Scrambler Rifles with purplish blue beams) Lasers at long ranges, but are slow, and only have about 200HP(mostly shield, 50 HP/s regen). They have little to no tactics, and will march blindly at the players. They should be taken out first, as their damage can destroy an entire squad if they are able to. They will sometimes throw flux grenades when they get within range. +10000 ISK per kill
Heavy Slaves: Medium Damage Laser users. However, they have a lot of Shield HP(~1100HP, mostly shield, 25 HP/s regen), and use cover, throw grenades, and generally work as a team. They will usually stay in groups of 3-4, but they can get separated sometimes. A challenge for a single mercenary, but as long as your team stays together, you can survive. They carry heavy Laser AV weapons, that can down most vehicles very quickly. +20000 ISk per kill
The objective of the game would likely be to survive as long as possible while whatever colony you are being hired to protect evacuates as many people as they can. You would be paid according to how many 'true slaves' you destroy, and how long your team is able to survive the onslaught (+50K ISK per minute, up to 15 minutes). The only win condition is to destroy all the slaves(200 slaves), but thus is exceedingly hard, because your team of 6 only has a reserve of 30 clones. However, if you do win, you get a massive payout of 15,000,000 ISK.
Level 5(Very Hard, balanced for use with PRO/OFC level gear): Sleeper Intel
Only for the most foolhardy of mercs!
Light Sleeper Drone: ~700HP, all armor. They unguided rockets as their main form of attack, but can be found with secondary lasers. They move quickly, and usually stay in groups of 2. They can drain your HP for their own use if they get close enough. Can easily wipe out your entire squad. +20000 ISK per kill.
Medium Sleeper Drone: ~1600HP, all armor. They typically use large, high damage lasers as their main form of attack, but have been noted to use small guided missiles as well. They typically stay in groups of 2, and can move faster than their size would suggest. They can drain your HP for their own use if they get close enough. Can easily wipe out your entire squad. +50000 ISK per kill.
Heavy Sleeper Drone: ~4000 HP, all armor. They are usually noted to use many small guided missiles as their main form of attack. Despite their size, they move at an average speed. They are usually never seen in groups. They can drain your HP for their own use if they get close enough. Can easily wipe out an entire squad. +125000 ISK per kill.
The objective of this gamemode is to infiltrate a Sleeper Site, and retrieve a Sleeper Database deep within the site, then escape the site with the Database. Completion of the objective yeilds 50,000,000 ISK. Due to their advanced scanners and the nature of wormhole space, your team is limited to 6 mercenaries, and modules and equipment such as cloaks and scanners are rendered inoperable within the site.

The Zombies & JASOC were so poorly done in Black OPs II I won't be buying any of there franchise anymore. Gutting of the story in all the HALO sequels turned me off that series.
All three of those game franchises are example of when a game designer erroneously thought betting everything on easier to code PVP modes was a good idea. Maybe it was the right decision or maybe the industry were just creating self-fulfilling prophecies. Either way a market niche has opened up. Right now Bungie is looking to win with Destiny.
I don't think PVE will save Dust 514. They need PVE to stabilize this game and give people another option than the currently broken PVP mode that has eluded every attempt to fix it. But what this game needs most right now are solid Critical Thinking skills inside the Development Teams. Otherwise we will continue to see the kind of negative results we're becoming accustomed too.
