Introduction
Today I would like to propose a solution to help out with the matchmaking system and add another level of depth into the game, by differentiating High and Low Sec public contracts.
Low security space is any system rated 0.4 to 0.1, unpoliced by Concord, flooded with pirates and is where Factional Warfare is located; low sec can be very dangerous yet at the same time very profitable: GÇ£Risk = ISKGÇ¥.
When you search for a public contract in Dust there is no difference between low and high sec public contracts, but every now and again you get deployed into a low security system without any consequences. I believe there should be a difference between High and Low Security public contracts; to help filter out newer and older players and add a temporary solution to the poor matchmaking we currently have.
What is the difference between them?
Low Security Contracts- Higher rate of pay,
- Faction Warfare salvage drops (earn a % of what you kill),
The higher payouts and salvage drops found in low sec contracts should attract more of the experienced players because of those reasons alone. Newer players could deploy into low security contracts but there should be some warning or explanation that low sec attracts higher leveled SP players, who will most likely be using prototype gear.
High Security Contracts- Lower or standard rate of pay,
- Standard salvage drops,
With lesser pay and smaller salvage drops, this should and hopefully will deter the older community from running these contracts for those reasons alone. Although this still won't stop the GÇ£try hardsGÇ¥ (introducing GÇ£CarebearsGÇ¥) from running these high sec contracts but it should filter out a lot of the older community who are looking for; a better fight, more ISK and better salvage drops.
Summary
I believe this would be a step in the right direction towards making the game more fleshed out and implementing a certain level of Risk = ISK, which is something only Planetary Conquest players have the delight of.
Differentiating High and Low Sec contracts to attract a certain breed of player won't be a permanent solution but it should help massively towards getting balanced teams and helping out the much needed matchmaking system. Not only would this implement a GÇ£newGÇ¥ game mode; to filter out the old players from the new, but this would also perfectly fit in with the lore and mechanics how it currently is in EVE Online.
What do you guys think? Should high security contacts payouts be lowered or stay the same and massively increase low sec payouts? Do you like the idea of splitting public contracts into two levels? Should we even have friendly fire in Low Sec contracts?
I would love to hear what you guys think o7

Are there even enough players to support separate hisec and lowsec contracts? |

Yeh IGÇÖd like to think there is. It could also help those newer players out by reducing the chances of getting proto stomped on their first day/week and quitting never to return.

Proto stompers aren't looking for a challenge. Their goal is no risk, no losses.
Do you have a solution for that?

Those players you speak of who enjoy playing against new players in proto gear are the GÇ£try hardsGÇ¥ and GÇ£carebearsGÇ¥, that are ruining the game for new players. The majority people with proto suits do not enjoy this and would rather be deployed into a challenging game.
But no theres no solution for those types of players, this is hopefully just one step in the right direction for that....

More balancing changes beyond what you suggest will be needed to prevent either or both of the following:
1) proto squads with nanite injectors dominate high-risk high-reward matches with minimal losses.
2) proto sqads with nanite injectors dominate low-risk low-reward matches with minimal losses.
I still like the idea, but I think it's too late to implement it effectively. You can hope the playerbase isn't too small all you like; I say it is.

That would work for me... I should get a points boost for wiping out a proto with my Free Logi, and I should lose out on points when I slaughter a noob with my proto... That seems fair, but I don't believe that CCP could make it work... The game would spend too much time making points corrections, which would probably lag out this laggy bastard even more. Going for tiered matches won't work either.. I have relatively low SP compared to the guy's I usually play with. (I'm just over 12 million, they're all past 25 million) So a tiered matchmaking system just wouldn't work since I'm playing with guy's outside of my tier... So if my friends and I squad up and head out for a match, how would the game calculate which tier we should go into? Should it be based on the lowest point carrier in the squad, or the highest? Or maybe the average? No matter how you look at it, my squad could never be properly matched to another squad since our SP difference is so extreme. |

Just make Militia Items and Vehicles no longer register a players Skills.
Then make a Militia Only game mode.
This Game Mode will serve as a consistent new player training mode and also offer a new game mode for older DUST players to test their abilities without skills, and or a relaxing mode to retreat to after receiving a few hard matches in the normal mode.
Militia Items no longer registering player skills, will also allow players to see the advantages of investing into actual DUST fittings and items to gain the advantage of those skills in Normal Public Matches thus improving DUST players competition in that mode significantly aswell.
And possibly spurring more use for limited use DUST market items.
P.S. The Militia Game Mode is not a Permanent fix for New Players, nore should it be. But it is something that is needed in DUST to retain those new accounts created every day. And it will certainly give a fix until DUST 2.0 and a new game mode almost everyone could enjoy on occasion.
Remember we don't have to have 16vs16 every match as long as the numbers are somewhat even on both sides. |

i like the idea..
the higher risk for higher reward would be nice.
also friendly fire should be engaged in low sec games.. it is low sec after ll
and as a added spin.. eve bombardments made open for low sec eve pirates.. 1 every 2 mins and 30 seconds.
so as you are proto stomping folks a random player in eve in that system can bombard where ever he wants to. which could lead to nice pirate anti pirate battles in orbit.
basically a free fire range where you can be killed by pretty much anybody.
