Say for instance you took a Scout contract from a Scout Career Agent, and at regular periods during play, the Agent would "contact" you with hints on infiltration and whatnot, which would be recapped after the mission. Do you really want players to ragequit? Intrusive popups are NEVER the solution.
+1 on the general topic, though. |

Do you really want players to ragequit? Intrusive popups are NEVER the solution. +1 on the general topic, though. Whoops.. Sorry, i meant an audio cue. And only for new player contracts.... Though that could get annoying as well. An on-death message saying "are you aware that using cover can increase your survivability?", if it queued more than once, would probably make me want to punch something. If it were relevant however, and didn't repeat itself, it could be useful. Think of all the things newberries do that vets laugh about... Then have an NPC bring them up to speed. I would suggest stuff like: - Racial damage types/weapon variants "The Gallente love armor and plasma, with generally short ranges. Their weapons are classified as hybrid and thus inflict slightly more damage to shields than armor. Probably because they hate Caldari. Gallente weapons are: Assault Rifle, Ion Pistol, Plasma Cannon, etc." That kind of introduction would be helpful during character creation, actually. - How the different equipment types work - Dropship controls "The dropship is not a helicopter. Raising your nose does note save you from a dive. To gain height, use the 'increase thrust' button, even when it seems like you are about to kiss the ground. To move forward, lower your nose. To move backward, raise your nose. Use the right stick to move turn instead of crashing your ship by tilting with the left stick." - "Grenades have horribly long timers. Press and hold the grenade button to cook them." - "Don't bother with swarm launchers against HAVs. Either use a heavy frame with a forge gun or get yourself some Remote Explosives. Kill tanks by either planting at least three explosives directly or by planting the REs on an LAV, which you then ram into the tank. Be careful though, to not get stuck in the environment - LAVs with REs tend to teleport when that happens." - "Plant Remote Explosives with the fire button. Explode them with the aim-down-sights button." - "'You have been scanned' just means that your enemy used the New Eden-approved wallhack against you. Protect yourself with profile dampeners or HTFU. Alternatively, use this fact to mess with whoever is now targetting you."
There's plenty of obnoxiously hidden stuff that newbies need to be taught. |

This should be relegated to ones performance in game in PVE modes where you are randomly allotted loot for your actions, destroying enemies, structures, objectives/hives.... Not in PvP....ever. Have you not met the flight school attendants in PvP? We already have people doing their own "contracts" by trying to learn the dropship or going full nova knife. Those don't even contribute to the battle. |
