It's just a mechanism to try and get players to log in more often and do certain things. How about instead, we let them build a game that we all actually want to log in and play every day because it's fun?
Eve doesn't have daily anything and it's one of the best MMO's on the market because it's fun to play and the community is amazing.
I have been playing Dust 514 for a year. Its getting old waiting for everything. This is something that could be accomplished relatively quickly. You must not have read the entire thread as it addresses things like tutorials, PvE, EVE integration, and most of all fun. It would be good to have purpose again. Also its not unrealistic to expect contracts being available to the full spectrum of mercenaries. I believe it would add immersion and depth to a game that gets more and more stale with each passing nerf cycle.
Tired waiting after only a year? They're trying to build a game that is beyond the scope of any online FPS currently playing, that's going to take time. And they're trying to have it interconnected to what is widely known as one of the most complicated MMO's to play. Eve has taken 10 years so far and they're still not done with it, they're going to keep working on it, adding things and adjusting things untill it either achieves true sentience or becomes financially unviable for them to continue. A true work of art takes time to complete and I see that dust has the potential to become that if we give CCP the time they need.
I agree tutorials would help a lot for a new player, I'm not sure what the new player experience is at the moment as I haven't created a new character since the beta. But new player experience is something that CCP ha s always been poor at. Eve's is pretty useless at the moment but they're constantly trying to find a way to improve it that fits in with the universe.
PvE would be nice, but I think that there are other things that they need to address first. Things like large scale battles should, in my opinion, come before PvE. Plus again, PvE is something that CCP's not the best at. I'm quite happy not running the same PvE mission over and over again untill I get bored and decide to take a break from the game. Plus, PvE has the potential to break the PvP game quite badly. Imagine all the people who are scared to lose their entire fittings in PvP moving to PvE where the reward to risk ratio becomes skewed way off towards the reward side because the enemy Ai is pretty basic. Which means it gets harder to get a PvP match unless you're in one of the bigger alliances. Again, see eve as the example.
Fun is something that's subjective. I stil lhave fun most of the time when I play Dust, even when I'm being repeatedly killed without taking anyone down because I'm trying to work out which fit to use and where to respawn to counter what the opposing team is doing. But I'm one of theose wierd types of people who enjoy experimenting with fits and learning new things then applying what I've learned to what I'm doing.
Daily contracts would create two types of Dust players, those who complete them religiously and so can get all the rewards and more stocks of the 'best' gear and those who don't have the time to log on every day and complete a laundry list of tasks. I don't want to feel I have to play a certain number of games as a logi so I can get my number of heals for the day, then switch to another class so I can get so many vehicle kills and then switch again so that I can have a certain number of hacks. That's what dailies would feel like to a not unsubstantial number of players.
