At Proto you have:
passive 1 HP rep per second to bolster your repair modules & logi reps
4 lows for plate stacking
25% amor and shield resistance to grenades, Mass Drivers, Plasma cannon splash, forge gun splash and rail tank splash
15% armor resistance to Rail Rifles, Magsec SMG's and Sniper Rifles
10% armor resistance to SMG's, HMG's and Combat Rifles
Am I missing anything else?

Gallente Heavy is as glorious as the engineers and scientists have told us for many months.
I was waiting patiently to use it, while our engineers were perfecting the design.
Shield regeneration bonus for Gallente Assault is about as useful as Sharpshooter for Nova Knives.

The only thing i dislike about that heavy is that it only has 1 high slot. Which means not the ideal suit for AV with a forgegun. Honestly i still think the amarr heavy is the most balanced heavy with the new changes. 750HP raw armor (without any modules) and it will have 2 high slots allowing me to stack damage mods.
I shall show you a world, a world which you cant imagine, a world full off butthurt n00bs at the other end of my gun

It's definitely not the DPS heavy, but for armor survivability and taking on infantry head-to-head, this is the heavy for the job. No getting ganked by a speedy little scout with an SMG anymore unless you're already almost dead to begin with, no getting blown to bits by grenade spam, no getting 2 pieced by that Thales camping in the redline, no getting obliterated in 3 seconds by that rail rifle 80m away at the top of a hill while you cross a street. Armor superiority at it's best.

a man who knows his stuff. crossing the street as a heavy vs a RR = certain death. But it should be the RR is high dmg and the heavy is slow w/o the ability to fire back at distance. |

Unless I'm mistaken the Amarr Sentinel can still outtank the Gallente.
It has one less low slot, but 75 more armor which when you add the bonus to armor is nearly 100. Thus the Amarr sentinel matches the armor of the gallente without the speed penalty.
As far as bonuses go it has higher resistance to projectile weapons, which are much more prevalent in close quarter fights.
The 1 passive repair rate bonus is nice, but pointless when you have over 1000 HP and logis are running around repairing you from miles away with 1000 HP per second repair tools.

This is true, the Amarr will be able to tank more HP. However, the Gallente will have resistances on it's armor to ALL anti-armor weaponry while the Amarr will take full damage to it's armor from rail rifles. A flux and a RR, that Amarr heavy is in hot water. But with 4 lows you can brick 4 complex plates and run with a logi, you can stack 3 and a repp and have a little buffer, you can go full damps and be invisible to scans and still have a passive rep... hell, you can throw 4 kin cats in your lows and speed tank it if you really wanted to. A lack of high slots is no real issue since there are no truly stellar high slot modules, but there are plenty of great lows. A shield extender would be a waste for a Galheavy high since all of his resistances are geared towards armor, so damage mod or if your really into scanning the few people near you who aren't damped, a precision enhancer.
I would prolly run it really funky myself. I love mixed up fits. I'm thinking......
Complex D.Mod Complex C. Reg Complex K. Cat 2 Complex Plates MH-82 "Syndicate" SMG C7-Flux
Maybe swap the Kin Cat for another plate if I'm against sturdy opposition, then drop the cardiac regulator for a repair mod or another plate if I have a logi for really serious fights.

This is the intrinsic issue with most caldari suits, especially considering I have to give up a low slot to use a shield regulator, and maximize my shield tanking...
However... tankers, I have one thing to say. Bow to the caldari forge lord overseers, for we shall be your wrathful gods.

Depending on where the weapon balance sits, damage modifiers Plasma rifle and grenades, in 1.8 I might go either Gallente or Minmatar with Caldari weapons. I love the Gallente heavy though, it's a true stand and deliver suit vs the usual mow everything down die and re spawn suits.
But man those Caldari weapons are to good, and them Minmatar Assault bonuses make for a great long range fighter. |

I've been running Minmatar assault since Uprising 1.0, so I'm glad to see us getting some bonuses that make us actual contenders in the assault class rather than a niche class for the dedicated Matari players and light AV players. I just really hope we avoid FOTM status.

My current heavy: Complex D-Mod 4 Complex Plates Boundless HMG Toxin SMG or Assault Scrambler. Basic Fragmentation Grenades.
Guess which heavy I'll be using come 1.8 especially considering the new PG/CPU stats compared to the current ones
BL4CKST4R wrote:But man those Caldari weapons are to good, and them Minmatar Assault bonuses make for a great long range fighter. I already do this actually, mix complex D-mods and shield extenders with a Minnie Assault with a Rail Rifle, the high-slot lay-out with the innate fast speed makes it already ideal for that purpose, come 1.8 and it will be a complete and utter buff to my playstyle, no cons.

Thinking about that myself, I feel like the reps should go 1/s-2/s-3/s as the Sentinel goes from STD-ADV-PRO. It doesn't really feel like suits change that much per tier, and that would make a nice change.

Only difference is Gallente Heavy has no BPO Variant were as my Amarr Sentinel has two contrasting but very nice looking BPOs, which I will use none stop once I get that respec alongside a Gallente scout, because that 3sec passive rep on my DREN, Dragonfly and Valour BPO suits makes me moist!

Buried in the forums there was a great post describing the problem. It had something to do with a game design flaw where the module slot layout to suit advantages works at the Standard then systematically got worse with Advanced and terrible at Protoype.
It wouldn't surprise me if the Dev's stayed gun-shy on giving stat line tier bonuses after what happens in closed beta.
