This game is not meant to be played solo. You can lone wolf it, eventually, after you learn the maps inside out and know where most of the engagements take place, and where you can find good cover, etc, but until then... join a corp. Lots of corps like taking noobs and helping them out, just look through the recruitment threads. 4) Become a logi, and learn what other people do by running around behind them, and paying attention to what they do. You can focus on learning instead of shooting, and still support your squad. Remember, you can create free PSN IDs, so create 2 or 3 more with 1 Dust character on each, and just let them accrue SP, until you figure out what you want to do with them. Turn one into a logi, and learn with him. 5) Don't worry about KDR, it means next to nothing in this game. The only thing that matters is the W. Some classes like logi frequently go negative -- yet they are orbital generators because of the WP they accrue. That guy on the winning side that went 3/10, and is at the top of the board with 2200 WP? Those are logis, and are critical to a team's success -- he's the reason you got pounded flat by orbitals 3 times during the match. Aim to be like him. Personally, when I play logi, I'm happy if I hit 1.00. That means that I was able to give as good as I got, which makes me the zero sum game -- I wasn't a slayer, but I didn't drag my team down either, and I still generated a buttload of WP during the match. Another class that can go negative frequently is forge gunner -- I can easily go negative if I spend an entire Dom chasing tanks. If I go negative KDR, but we got the win because I was able to protect my squad by keeping 3 tanks at bay, but not actually kill any of them, does that make it a bad round for me? I think not. In other words, KDR largely doesn't mean squat, unless you aim to be an assault slayer -- a "successful" match greatly depends on what class you are playing, and what role you were performing during the match. Good luck merc! This!
Another good tip, fit a militia repair tool on a copy of your Frontline starter fit. Follow a group of people, and rep them whenever they need it, I guarantee you'll always be welcome...unless you're following scouts, in which case you'll just get them killed faster. |

Being a logistics man myself, I'll echo an earlier poster's statement and tell you that you can stick around us in battles. Chances are that some of us somewhere are usually carrying injectors to revive you, repair tools to get you back to 100% health, and/or repper hives to get you resupplied. Usually (those of us that are halfway decent anyway) don't get brought down right away so we'll be able to keep an eye on the surroundings through active scanners. Unfortunately unless you're in the same squad, scanners don't light up the radar for everybody any longer, but you'd at least be able to see where everyone was firing towards. Kind of an addition to this, if you're running w some people and get into a firefight, keep an eye on your surrounding and minimap to keep from getting flanked. Situational awareness is a very useful skill in this game. Something else that might be a bit further down the queue of skills to get but at some point might want to think about putting some SP into it is "range amplification" (I think that's the name) gives a passive range boost to minimap/radar +10m/lvl if I recall correctly. Dropsuit Upgrades>Core Upgrades>Electronics>Range Amplififcation and no you don't need to equip booster mods to get the bonus It's unfortunately only 10% per level, which for an assault suit means one meter. |

Great stuff here. As a proto logisis, I want to say that most every player is going to recommend you start out as logi, but I don't want you to think that is your stuck path and you can't be a killer. Logi lifestyle is very, very SP expensive, but logi playstyle doesn't have to be and can reap great benefits. However, if you don't enjoy supporting and have an itch to kill more often then supporting, don't start sinking your hard earned SP into it.
As another stated, fit a rep tool on your militia medic kit. The two things that vets hate the most:
- you revive them to only get them killed again immediately after
- you revive them with so little health, they are helpless for a good long while
So, always be aware of your surroundings. If you see a downed blue but he's in the middle of a firefight, I don't care how much he yells at you or how much you want those wp, its better to let him bleed out for the team. Most of the time, the downed blue also doesn't want you to come heal him. He just hasn't gotten to the respawn window yet. So unless you're ABSOLUTELY sure no red is around, don't revive your blue.
That being said, don't carry an injector without a rep tool if you can help it. You won't always be able to follow this rule. I run with a great corp and as assaults, they always carry an injector only. They know that I am right behind them with a solid rep tool or that if I ever go down, they can get me back in the game supporting them. However, as a support role, its on you to have that rep tool. It's also a great way to get points. I get many, many wp.
+25 per person spawned on my uplink +25 per amount healed on blue +60 per person revived +35 per guardian +15 per person scanned
As you can see, it really starts to add up. As a 100% support logisis, my job is never to kill and I'm ok with that. I get my points in and help the team.
Again, if you find yourself really enjoying that playstyle, their is a great guide in this section for pure logi. Don't let KDR shake you. I have a **** poor KDR but I'm usually top 5 in the list always because of my contribution to the team. I'd rather see my team win and have a poor KDR than have my team lose repeatedly because I was busy getting 22 kills and 0 deaths. While there is always an exception to the rule, my general consensus of people with a high KDR is that they are horrible team players. Again, not always the case, but when you start worrying only about your KDR, you find yourself letting your team down in favor of it more and more.

or maybe they just switched it hoping no one would notice...
or maybe I'm just dumb...
the latter being the most likely scenario lol

What kind of skills should I be focusing on? Currently I put most of my sP into increasing my shields for all suites and some into weapon handling with assault rifles.
Not to be mean but in this game K/D means absalutly nothing. It is all about haveing fun and if you want to show something off you should be showing off stacks upon stacks of ISK. |

Go into vehicle fits, into the market and pick out a militia tank (probably the one with a blaster). Go to it's left slots and add on a scanner. Fill up the other slots if you want.
Drive around. They cost you about 80k each, so you can afford to lose about two per match and still earn some money.
Drive around and get used to the environment, using the scanner to find enemies and help your team. Tip: Try not to drive past the same location again until about two minutes have passed as the enemy will most likely have their anti tank stuff out the second time you pass.
Or get a sica tank that has a rail gun and sit on the lip of a hill, stopping the enemy from easily using drop ships or tanks. pull back over the lip of the hill when they start hitting you.
You'll live longer and get more of a feel of the game. |
