In 1.7 we have seen HAVs and vehicles in general come into their own. In a way they are like a higher class of ship in Eve, where it either takes overwhelming force of infantry or other vehicles to kill them. Infantry itself has had a fairly flat equivalence where the scouts and heavies exist at two ends of the survivability spectrum with assaults and logis fairly comfortably in the middle.
I think in 1.8 we will start to see heavies (commandos and sentinals) come into their own in this next update. What I anticipate this will require is a new focus of 'heavy killers' or 'anti-heavy' roles. I think that stealthy scouts and commandos will probably have the best possible roles for this because of their respective bonuses.
So while prior to 1.7, your standard medium infantry have had a fairly squishy target rich environment. With the increase of cheaper and heavier classes this target richness has dropped and will continue to do so.
Players should by now have completely secondary roles that they are willing and capable of playing. I think most of the whine comes in a game where teams are full of players who do not have the pre-made suits to adapt to the battlefield.
Start to think about what two or three roles you will pick for 1.8 rather than the single suit and weapon you will choose. |

If 1.8 is the rise of the heavies, then that will balance out the vehicle stomping.

Yep its basically a must now to have two fits that change to the battle field at the moment iv noticed my catch it all fit is no longer working

For sure. There will be many more ways to go AV in 1.8
-Dual nanohive scouts will mean lots of grenade (AV or otherwise) spam -commandos with light weapon bonuses and a couple damage modded highslots will make light weapon AV more deadly. -More heavies that can tank splash damage from missiles, grenades, etc hurling forge bolts and HAVs. -Caldari heavies will make pretty awesome gunners -very stealthy/cloaked mine laying scouts

I'm well spec'd into amarr heavy. But instead of a respec what I'm doing is going for all the others as well. Why have a choice of one when 4 is better?

Still only 2 heavy weapons so far. HMG and forgegun... how long do we have to wait till we get more heavy weapons? New suits are nice but i would like to have a broad selection of weapons for heavys. And no light weapons are not acceptable.

I hope Minmatarr weapons will receive a little "nerf".
Instead of +10% armor and -5% shield. It shoud be +5% armor and -5% shield.
To be balanced with the others weapon. |

Same for Scouts although we're getting an extremely cool new equipment. I need more EW stuff and infiltration-assisting gear.
You guys just need some different kind of fire power. And imo, the Forge Gun shouldn't be listed as anything other than a AV weapon. It's not built for anti-infantry despite it's anti-material fire.

I think the people who started playing before uprising and who started at early times of dust are happy that we are getting new suits. Until I see a blue tag saying "new heavys 1.8" I dont trust it

It can't really be rise of the heavies when they just took a 300hp cut.
Edit: After thinking, it might only be 200.

But every other weapon has a damage profile that rounds out to 100, as opposed to 102.5%.
I'm pretty sure armour users have more armour than a shield user would when fighting those guys, too.

Personally, I think there will be a lot more variety on the battlefield after 1.8, like almost a totally different game variety. It's very bland now. .
Even if you're right, I like the rise of heavies better. One, I get WP for healing the blue ones. More importantly, I can run faster than the red ones.

Amarr Heavies and Commandos still have the same EHP, but they now have more armor and less shield. They didn't lose anything, you're just looking at those stats and not seeing the bonuses being applied.
i.e. right now Amarr sentinels have 480 shields/armor, but skill bonuses bump it up to 600/600. The new Amarr sentinels have 600 armor BEFORE bonuses.
And let's not forget the damage resistances and explosive resistance giving them an even higher EHP, or the extra slots commandos are getting.

in the same way a can of soda is the hard counter to a pavement roller. cloaky shotty scouts may be a counter but it's far from hard, it would take multiple rounds and that's risky business.
the new scout suits are awesome don't get me wrong. but my first though wasn't "more slots, bigger tank, kill heavys." it was "hell yea! I can fit a range extender and a cardiac regulator now!"

Glad people are starting to realize this. I, personally, have many fits for all types of contingencies that happen on the battlefield. This allows me to effectively change tactics as needed, and therefore help change the flow of the battle. This is life in New Eden - I do the same thing in Eve and never rely heavily on one fitting for the exact same reasons.
What will be your legacy? Will you rise, or will you fall?

Speaking of overwhelming force to get rid of higher classes of vehicles. My squadmate death shard and my tanker Lily the scarred were in a skirmish match late last night/early morning. 1 caldari rain tank and one gallente blaster tank vs a 5 tank zerg that ran right up to us. We killed all of them in the ensuing brawl. Got them into a place where they could only funnel in 2 at a time. Ended up killing 4 more tanks that game myself and death got a few of them as well. Finally had my tank killed by one of them in a jihad car that i didnt hear in time to raise my hardeners. Talk about a rush XD

Same 1200 EHP And let's not forget the damage resistances and explosive resistance giving them an even higher EHP, or the extra slots commandos are getting. @OP: I'm super excited for my minmatar logistics bonus. Proto Flux... 47.25 meter range, 87.5 HP/s, repping two heavies at once from across the map. Or for CQC I have the Core Focused clocking in at record 218.75 HP/s, with a bonus 6 meters of range from the new skill so that I never lose a lock. The abundance of new heavies, plus the lower shield stats means I'll have plenty of armor to rep, and tons of points to gain.
I too, was confused as well but caught on pretty quick this was without skill bonuses
