Or forge guns are too fast.
4600 Armor Grimsnes goes down in two shots and maybe 5 seconds from the first blue ball of light to the second. I understand that forge guns need to be able to down a HAV in something reasonable but when you have a target as easy as a dropship (I'm talking Myrons and Grimsnes).
No here, take this list
- Dropship is easy to hit from long ranges due to lack of cover
- Dropship weak-points are conveniently flaunted to the ground
- The Assault Dropship is as maneuverable as the old dropships. Recent dropships are by far too unresponsive (at least Grimsnes) DS like the Grimsnes are far too bulky and obvious a target to put out into the open air.
- Afterburners are more than required and also not as potent as olden tymes
- Passive modules besides reps are just not worth the slot space
- Assault DS has more CPU/PG yet less slots (Do Not Take this As "Oh Nerf ADS")
The list goes on and on but these are just some of the reasons no one cares to take up STD dropships very often. The cost versus risk versus reward is absolutely slanted. Dropship is basically a mathematical function for death Input> More Altitude Output> Railguns, Forge Guns, and Damage Amplifiers oh my! Input> Less Altitude Output> HAVs! Turrets! Evade! Evade! Input> Let's just hit the flight ceiling Output> This is not fun
CCP how many of those Nullabor prefits do you sell? How many LP store transactions for the State Myron and Federation Grimsnes are tracked? How often do you see a Grimsnes or a Myron? They used to be a valid squad asset and now look at it; Condor Squad is way more silent, some people remained in the channel although admit that they do not pilot and have put off SP (or further SP) into Dropships. The ADS is different I am talking STD. We clear? GRIMSNES AND MYRON FEEDBACK!

So, you got shot two times in a row from a Proto Breach FG...
YOU GOT OUTPLAYED.... cry elsewhere. FGs don't need to be touched, and neither do DSes. DSes are actually more OP than tanks, so it's YOU, not the equipment.
Pick up an FG tomorrow, and use it every time an enemy DS comes to the battle. Then come back here and tell me how many of those DSes you knocked out of the sky by yourself. An unhardened Grimsnes is OP? You sir are kidding. And WTF did I say huh? I said this is not about touching the FG. Please, next time, how about YOU get in a grimsnes with 4 enhanced plates and try to outplay a forge gun.

If things are getting hot, lay low for a while and then jump them unexpectedly. Fly defensively. Ok, 4 Enhanced plates: I was NOT STILL, I was on my merry way. When I took the first forge shot I immediately attempted a bank but the thing would just not respond fast enough like in the old days. I could not fricken bring the thing to turn. In two shots, between them five seconds it could've been a little under, the thing would just not move. An Incubus can outmaneuver and the Incubus handles as well as the old Grimsnes. By the time I took the second hit my velocity vector had barely changed.
REMEMBER EVERYONE I'M TALKING ABOUT A GRIMSNES HERE
Admittedly I am semi-rusty on my piloting skills I used to be a kickass pilot in a kickass myron that ran without hardeners and without an after burner but the days changed it so badly that I'm ******* saying it's not fine. The old Dropship was fine. They were hard to take out but not a damn impossibility. Now, anything less than an ADS without hardeners is just impossible.

When you hunt fowl, you don't use a rifle, you use a shotgun because the fowl are small and agile. Using a rifle without birdshot is going to require a lot of skill
Yet it doesn't take a lot of skill to down a non-ADS with a railgun or forge
We need to work DS agility back to where they were a difficult target

The key is not just staying still, it's altering your flight path to throw off their projected aim. It's not difficult to judge where a dropship going in a straight line is headed, and even banking is easily adjusted for.
I'm not too familiar with fitting a Grimsnes, but I'd advise using a hardener or two and a heavy rep. Afterburners are nice in a tight spot.
Again I understand the basics of avoiding forge guns I used to have to do it all the time But again the thing would not respond and I was well aware that I had four plates but I honestly thought that the HP would be made up, like CCP should have designed them. But no, two shots and I can't even get the nose to tilt 20 degrees before the second shot.
Dropships used to be much much much much better and I am merely asking why did they get nerfed? HAVs can retreat better than a dropship these days, it's semimadness.

However If you stuck around and took 2 breach FG rounds then I cant have much sympathy for you. Its hard work swatting things with a breach. Granted the first shot will surprise them and sting a lot but 9/10 times the pilot will move off and out of the way by the time the 2nd round is ready to fire. Are we on the same page here? The Assault DS is as maneuverable as the old standard dropships. That's how maneuverable to old dropships were and that's why they were fine. You couldn't stand and deliver but you at least had a chance to out pilot them. Nowadays, in a grimsnes that's just a far off hope, it's as agile as Fat Albert.

As to dropship / av balance I do feel that swarm lock on distance should be increased along with a lock on indicator and a slight armor buff to account for this higher vulnerability time (maybe limited counter measures instead of the armor buff to keep from rewarding reckless pilots more than those who are very aware of danger zones).
OP: I think you need to toy with more fits primarily hardeners and shield boosters as well as working on your flight patterns. If you are getting dropped by FGs you are either flying very slowly or in a very straight line, either way asking to be shot down. Vipers are more maneuverable than Gorgons I also shouldn't have to use armor hardeners, it just doesn't make sense why armor tanking doesn't work.
