Well it is time for the first elected CPM in New Eden. With some new staff at CCP, and the first elected CPM, hopefully we are in for a good year for DUST 514.
Like some of the others I have been interested in DUST, and working towards organizing people for DUST 514 long before we were even able to play the open beta.
DUST 514 offered something to me that I did not feel I was getting from other games. The idea of a persistent shooter really interested me. Also, being an on and off EVE player I was already interested in the setting offered here by CCP. One thing I really liked about EVE was the depth of the rabbit hole. I wanted to see a shooter with similar depth.
Now while DUST 514 has not lived up to some of those expectations, some may remember that EVE did not live up to its original expectations. Many of the things said today about DUST 514 are almost quotes from things said about EVE in 2003.
I want to work with CCP to help make sure that one day DUST is recognized as a deep and growing shooters the way EVE, an entire decade later, is a deep and growing game. I have no illusions that the CPM has great power to force the changes we desire, but we can help influence what CCP thinks of the DUST 514 community.
If elected to the CPM I will work to represent the player who doesn't want an average FPS game. I want to make people understand that a gamer is not defined by the machine they play on. People who play on a console are not simple folk, and should not be judged by the lack of depth in console games. Instead those other game developers should be judged, and CCP should be encouraged to show that console gamers want to explore the depths of the New Eden rabbit hole as well.
I promise to work hard to represent the voices of those who want more. I promise to work with CCP to help them show us proper progress. I promise to engage the community, and know what the DUST players want in DUST 514, and what they want communicated to CCP. |

Thanks. With so many running, I will need it.
I have been playing DUST for so long now. I just want to do my part to help it develop. |

Fox Gaden wrote:Looking forward to reading your responses to the Killer-12 questionnaire: Killar-12 wrote:A few questions In what ways would you wish to see the Connection between capsuleers and infantry expanded?
How high on your list of priorities is having dust able to perform a constant framrate of say 20 FPS?
Would you wish for the return of Corporation Battles or rather the introduction of Team Deploy for Factional warfare?
I'm sure to come up with more questions, but these seem to be ones that many people have so I put them here
it's copy pasted into all Candidate's threads... InB4 Killer-12 Interesting questions. I will share my views on them.
First question, in regards to the connection between EVE and DUST:
The connection between these two games is quite important to me. There are major connections many of us want to see, such as industry and markets crossing between the two. I think there are little things that could also be done to help make DUST players feel a part of New Eden, and for those DUST players to be seen as a real part of new Eden by the EVE players. Things like giving the DUST mercs an ability to move around the map. Maybe having to use EVE players to transport them, or a jump clone idea with similar limitations that EVE has for that, requires a skill and ISK to put jump clones in different locations. I would love to see DUST mercs being used for local intel, or using remote systems just for fun. It would require very little, but have a nive pay off in terms of feeling a part of New Eden.
The second question on Frame Rate:
I think this is important to anyone playing an FPS game. I am sure it is important to CCP as well. I consider this important.
Corp battles or Team Deploy I do not see this as an either or situation, but if it was I would want the team deploy. I say this not for Fac War, but for the grouping mechanic itself. It means more than just the ability to group up in teams. It reminds me of the EVE fleet mechanic, and I think it will be important for future development of game modes greater than 16 vs 16.

Fox Gaden wrote:Here is the other standard set of questions. The Jaysyn Larrisen questionnaire: Jaysyn Larrisen wrote:A few questions for you (same as I pose to all candidates):
1) Other than the forums how do you intend to collect and communicate requests, needs, POV of the community? In particular, those outside your corp / alliance.
2) What level of interaction would you like to establish between the CPM and CSM?
3) What are the top 3 short term (next 2mo's) changes you would encourage CCP to make?
4) What are the top 3 mid term (next 6mo's) changes you would encourage CCP to make?
5) In Spring of 2015, when CPM1's term is up, what would you want people to have said about your tenure as a CPM member?
6) Will you be creating a channel for folks to meet and sqd with you during the period before the election?
Thank you for your time.
1) I can not demand the community to come to me, I must go to the community. Facebook and Reddit have portions of the DUST community to reach out to. I would likely use Twitter to communicate and respond to questions as well.
Also, while it is not a lot of people, I would also put effort into making public CPM squads where I talked to people actually playing DUST who may not be part of the DUST communities online.
2) I really like this question. I think there should be communication between these groups in order to help approach CCP with a united front in terms of increasing the interaction between these two games. Both EVE and DUST players have surprised CCP with a willingness to go into the deep end in terms of connection between the two, and I would like to surprise CCP more if we can unite these communities at the level of the CPM and CSM.
3) Realistically I would want the equipment and suits released soon. The shield bubble and cloaking unit and such. We need to start trying this stuff out instead of speculating about it. I know we need to test and balance, but people have been waiting for a while now.
Second I would love to see my idea about letting DUST mercs move to different systems.
4) PVE needs to happen. We need to start the MMO aspect of DUST already.
Second I want the ability to sell stuff. Even if its not an open market, we need to ability to sell assets. I will count this as part of the second, but player trading of items as well. I can not use these Thales, and I know someone who would...
Third, I would Like another game mode released. Mainly something along the lines of Skirmish 1.0. I know it ended up being imbalanced, but it was far more fun. Having a certain attacker and defender made things more fun. Being pushed back, or having a solid defensive line felt great. Having an actual defensive line to sneak around made being a Scout better than when we are just swirling around the same objectives.
5) That I cared about DUST 514. That I represented the community well, and that I helped encourage the best out of CCP.
6) Sounds like a great idea. I will use the channel for communication and Squad Finder to make the public squads. |

I was mainly thinking about Null Sec. I would love to see a DUST merc out there freaking people out because someone was in local. It would be like having a cloaked ship in the system.
It would be another reason for DUST and EVE players to work together. If I was an FC of a Fleet in EVE and I knew some DUST mercs where eyes in a system, I would use that. It would only happen if they wanted to work together, which allows for the emergent game play EVE is famous for.
I do agree though that it would only be something if it was easy to code in. The Jump Clone being the obvious easiest. That said it would need some limitation so you didn't have DUST mercs just bouncing around like mad. Similar restrictions that EVE has about moving once every 24 hours, and maybe have them pay to install the jump clone in the location.
The moving of the clones could be said to be done by NPC at first. One day they could expand it to letting EVE players move the DUST mercs, letting DUST mercs avoid a regular fee to the NPC.

I would like to see the current CPM ask us some questions. I am sure their experience may allow them to ask questions more related to the actual role of a CPM member that might give people a better perspective of how that person would handle them self in that role, rather than just what features they would like to see in the game. |

Zyrus Amalomyn wrote:Do you support a proper overhaul of the mouse interface? I guess it depends on what you mean by "proper."
I love that DUST lets people use both KB/M and the DS3, and although I don't care, the Move as well.
I want the mouse to feel right for those who use it. I would also want the controller movement speeds to have a greater range so that both the mouse and DS3 can turn as quickly or as slowly as they want.
I do not see either one as being superior. I think there are pros and cons to both. I find the mouse allows for better aiming, but the keyboard makes for horrible strafing control compared to the controller. |

So, as per the question asked by Jaysyn Larrisen, via Fox Gaden, I have created a chat channel for anyone wishing to ask me questions when I am online, or just generally get to know me and my views on DUST 514, and New Eden, or just life in general.
The Channel is called: SILENTSAM69 for CPM1
I am there with my mic on at the time of this posting, and will be playing some DUST for a while if anyone feels like jumping on. We can form a squad and shoot faces at the same time. |

Proper mouse support in terms of that, yes.
I do agree with CCP to not allow macros or a mouse that can change dpi with the push of a button, although I am willing to debate it. Modded controllers have been allowed by CCP, so there is a point to argue. |

Sure thing.
Profile:
Real Life Qualifications: Well, I guess I would have to consider what applies. I do have experience sitting on a counsel. This is nothing serious, just a student government for a university. They have a $7 million dollar budget, nothing major, but representing students interests in that is very important.
Communication: @SILENTSAM69 is my twitter. This would be my way of broadcasting simple stuff. I would imagine I would make actual use of it if I were elected. I would have to go to the community though. GimbleB and his Boots on the Ground would be helpful. I have my own Youtube channel I would likely modify to use as well. I would continue to be on the irc and Facebook groups and such. I would not concentrate though on my individual efforts to communicate with the community. I would try and have the entire CPM work at communicating with the community together when possible.
Expectations: I expect to have my work cut out for me trying to whip CCP into digging that rabbit hole a lot deeper. I expect to see good communication between CPM members, and with CCP to try and make sure we are working together and understanding one another. I have worked with people developing video games, and I understand it is not nearly as simple as the community often thinks, but it is the CPM's job to make sure CPM hears the community, and reaches its reachable gaols, and sontinues to push what they can reach to.
Experience with NDAGÇÖs: None with actual NDA's, but I have had experiences being entrusted with confidential informaiton in my work with those student government counsels.
Availability: West coast NA time zone. I make myself available throughout most hours though.
DUST based Experience: I started actually playing DUST shortly after the closed beta was opened. I was very anxious about each day I was not playing. Before that though I had spent well over a year helping to create a DUST community/Alliance from FPS clans that had known each other in MAG.
DUST Community Contributions: I have not been the leader in any of the tournaments or charity drives, only a participant. Most of my efforts were in helping to build the community I am a part of today. I did make it out to Fanfest last year and had planned an interview, but got quite sick on my first ever time out of Canada, and was not able to do so. It would have been a minor contribution, had luck not been against me. I have always been a vocal member of the DUST community on the irc and the Facebook page, but have not been able to contribute on an official capacity, beyond supporting those who have done more official community work.
DUST Priorities: Deeper rabbit hole, and more connection to EVE. It is the lack of connection to EVE that has most hampered the game play for many people. A few EVE alliances have tried to incorporate the two games, but have nothing driving a real meaningful connection right now. DUST needs a real economy, and industry, and it can get them from EVE. If EVE players require very little m^3 of material to create small DUST equipment, they can do so at cheap DUST prices. Considering how quickly DUST mercs go through that equipment, it will make an interesting supply and demand. EVE would benefit from having a new market opened up to them, and DUST players will get a deeper richer game world to be a part of. We came here looking for New Eden. We hear about the rich complex world that EVE is, and we want our part of that.
EVE Experience: I have played EVE on and off since it started. A friend got me into EVE when it was brand new. It was very limited compared to what it is today, and I hope DUST develops the same way, only much faster. I have been an EVE noob most of that time. I mission ran by myself and never joined a corp until I heard of DUST. From there I went to null sec and learned to be a part of a fleet and have had a great time in EVE. I have always been an off and on player, but I love the setting of New Eden.
Gaming Background: Well I started on a Comadore 64 with a ton of pirated games back in the 80's... We didn't need a fancy internet to pirate software in my day... lol I spent a ton of money in arcades growing up. I choose Sega Genesis over SNES, and am proud of that choice. No code needed for blood in Mortal Combat thank you. As for FPS games I played quite a few on PC, such as Ghost Recon, but for console it was mainly Halo. I played a little of Cod and BF3, just enough to put them down. When I saw the advertisements for MAG I got a PS3. MAG was easily my favourite FPS game. I loved Halo, and probably had more skill at that game than any other FPS, but MAG was just on another level to me. |

Arcades where great. Back when games were designed to be difficult because they wanted you to pump in more quarters. instead of the current hand holding they do in games.
Also, I am actually working on creating my own arcade machine with a Raspberry Pi running an emulator with a bunch of games. Going to be four player so I can get the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.
Not CPM related I guess, I just noticed the old arcade love. |

I hope we see more questions being asked of CPM candidates. So many of us agree on things, we need to distinguish ourselves. |
