One thing that should change in the Infantry vs. Dropship balance is the lack of cover. If a tank is around, I can duck behind hills or pillars to avoid being spotted or to evade their attacks. If a dropship is around, I have to hope they do not see me and decide to attack because I have no effective method of hiding or evading their attacks.
This is more a problem of map design and Dust being unable to handle a large number of objects than with the dropships themselves though.

As I said, the problem is the lack of cover. The outposts usually have plenty of cover. However, many maps have much, much more open area. If a ground vehicle is near me while traversing between two points, I can duck behind hills and such. If a dropship is near me while traversing between two points, I am at their mercy. It doesn't matter how well I dodge their attacks, they have a very wide area they can easily follow and shoot.
It doesn't even need to be solid structures. Objects like trees that obscure the pilot's view but don't stop attacks or trenches that make hitting infantry more difficult but also lock the infantry into a set path would do wonders.
