They have no business existing except to dictate the area of engagement for both teams, like in ambush

I assure you, no dropship pilot out there wants there easy win button against tanks taken away. Either way, my point still stands, once AV is buffed or hardeners are nerfed or limited to 1 per fit, we can balace railguns and/or redline rails, til then, no, we don't need tank and ADS spam being even worse than it is. If you're not a horrible tanker who is just god awful at DUST, you already know how to roll quickly forwards and backwards to combat dropships already. All railguns need is slightly more elevation to make this a very deadly tactic for a skilled tanker, which is what we should be rewarding: skilled players, not talentless nobodies who can't leave their redline to save their life.
If dropships were I win buttons, you would see FAR more of them as opposed to redline rail tanks
But, you don't, because they aren't. They actually take skill to operate effectively.

Actually the intelligent members of the community don't ask to entirely swap around map generation, and instead offer up alternatives to the redline

Everything needs a counter. just get your own red line rail sir? You typically can't hit a redline tank from the redline. And even if you somehow have a clear shot, it just becomes a game of who doesn't roll backwards quick enough, so if both players have arms and eyes, they just end up living forever, wasting time, and generally ignoring each other.
You don't fix a problem by exacerbating it.
