Blaster tanks are probably the biggest problems with tank balance. Gallente fleet fighting doctrine is based on getting in close heavily armored and deal massive damage, making them the up close brawler. Large blaster turrets ATM are less about up close high damage and more about being high speed anti infantry, which IMO is a terrible idea for a large turret. A rail tank has more balance because it's powerful gun and range is offset by it's firerate and clipsize, making it useful for other slow moving and stationary target. I'm neglecting missles because I honestly haven't run them extensively
We have a system where Large Rail: Long Range, good against installations and other tanks, limited against close range infantry.
Large Blaster: Medium range, decent against tanks and turrets. Extremely effective against fast moving targets, especially infantry.
In theory this looks alright and it has a balance, but the large blaster is just a little too good, even when unskilled into. I think the large blaster turret should have a decrease in range and turn rate (still faster than rails) but an increase in power. This wouldn't make it that much worse against infantry as it already over powers them, but it makes large turrets easier to avoid and gives large blasters a better chance against other tanks as long as they can close the distance. The large blaster currently give too much power to one person which unbalances our 16 v 16 matches, and yes even though real tanks have more power they also have more than one operator. I believe all large turrets should have slower turn speeds leaving the fast moving targets to the small turrets making anti infantry tanks far more dependant on gunners.
So what would be a good anti vehicle counter to these tanks at close range? A new perk for the plasma cannon. What if the Plasma Cannons neglected hardeners and resistance bonuses? This would make them favorable against (possibly) newly buffed sentinel resistances, and up close blaster tanks.
I think this gives tanks better balance against eachother while making it harder for solo tankers to dominate infantry. At the same time the plasma cannon has a purpose as the close range infantry heavy hitter and CQC tank counter.
Tarn chose peace. Tallen chose war. Where is my Gallente sidearm?
