As the title reads, I firmly believe that we're on the horizon of solid weapon balance and overall role balance. Roles are starting to truly distinguish themselves on the battlefield. In my opinion, it feels like the pieces are finally finding their place. Furthermore, it was a Planetary Conquest battle that really confirmed it.
What I witnessed last night, almost made me weep. While being pelted with endless bullets, I saw three different enemy roles working in seamless coordination to defend a Key objective. On the Ring Map the Key objective is K-10(For those who can't read a grid based map This objective is the key to winning the city, and on some maps the city is the game. If you're wondering why this objective is so important then just post or msg me in game. Anyways before I get anymore off topic, last night I saw an amazing use of roles to defend this very objective; involving Heavys, Scouts and Logi. Heavys guarded key choke points and CQC, Logi provided Reps and Scans, and scouts flanked counter positions. For me, it was utterly frustrating taking this point back. If I focused too much on the Heavys then a scout would flank and two Pop me. If I got to to close to kill the logi, a heavy would vaporize me. I could not even get angry because it was just too ******* beautiful.
Now I am not trying to say a balance is perfect, but it is getting and is a lot better. This game has come along way from FAILrising 1.0.
Most of the balance threads are based on public contracts, which IMO is a completely flawed system and 99% of the data collected from it should be thrown out.

I do like the gunfights in Kz, however the bot action kinda throws me off. Don't get me started on Base Camping with a squad lol

Ambush is just a broken gamemode, spawns are broken so it means that getting away from HAVs to get a vantage point, or to call in your own is nigh impossible because you're always being spawned in a position surrounded by a number of HAVs and infantry.
Anything works in Pubs. Which is why Pub matches should never be used to pick out weapons that have balancing issues.

I too feel like CCP is moving closer and closer to Infantry balance. I do think Tanks are too great of a force multiplier in their current state.
All things considered, I think only the rail rifle stands out as unbalanced. The RR is simply too effective in too large of an engagement range. I have no problem with its extreme range, as I feel like Dust really needed a weapon that allowed a long range playstyle. But, there simply isn't enough tradeoff for its range.
Overall, I'm happy with the balance though. |

I completely agree with everything you say, but more importantly, I think the root of the problem with ambush is that it revolves around slaying(killing). HAV's are great slayers, and their one weakness/flaw is that they can't hack points... in skirmish they need infantry or the need to be very bold Furthermore, the Slayer + Tank Combo only augments the effectiveness of a tanks and Assaults potential to kill.
I personally would like to see vehicles and squads removed from ambush. I stomp ambush for the sole reason that I can grind ISK and SP in a timely manner. With a solid squad, I usually finish a up a game in 2-3mins with over a 1000 WP.
Ambush should be place for infantry to go in, solo, and just kill stuff. You wanna run proto go ahead, but I doubt even I will maintain ISK positive.

You asked, so you shall recieve.
Now I usually explain this in words to my squad before a PC battle, but I will try to use words and diagrams
K-10 on the Ring Map( Again for those Grid Unfriendly :P )
Is arguably the most important objective in the specific socket for the following reasons:
1. 95% of the area need to firmly defend this objective is untouchable from Orbital Strikes.
2. You can easily contain/ spawn trap the objective G-8 if you control objective K-10 diagram v1
3. If objective K-10 and G-8 are controlled you can defend both quite easily , using the I,J,K-7,8 setup for point defense Diagram -Blue indicates uplink placement -Red indicates Assualt/Logi placement -Green indicates For Mid to long range High DPS weapon point defense. -Lines indicates: Preferred line of sight
4.Objective K-10 does not require a lot of players to defend. Therefore, You can transfer more players to slaying or home objectives.
5. Lastly, I believe Objective K-10 null cannon is placed on the highest rooftop. In theory, it takes less time for the missile to reach the MCC and thus faster damage. However, I could be wrong on that part.
Overall, Objective [k-10] Is easy to defend, with few players. Furthermore, This objective can be used to set up spawn traps or defend both points.
Phew, that was a lot to take in. Please keep in mind that their numerous position and starts that help take [k-10], but you have to pay for that information

I'm glad this is playing out in PC. All you can want is competitive play, where roles do what they're intended to do. Beautiful indeed! |
